Thx. I guess that means it was runner up. Have you heard anything from Tindebix or for that matters from any placements from Broadjam "selected"?

I have not.

I think you got an Honourable Mention! (HM)
We are always the bridesmaid and not the bride!
No, I have heard nothing from any company which selected my music!
It is supposed to be six months before any cash made goes to your PRO!
The system stinks as far as I'm concerned!
You are charged for the right to submit your work, you are seen publicly to be selected, you hand over your "Unique and Precious Creation", you are not consulted forthwith about its Future, Use nor amount it has earned!: If any!
Taking your product and not keeping you informed is poor!
There are artists being selected often here, so surely they must be seeing returns?
For all we know, our music could be getting used in far off places in Playlists, but we are like mushrooms!
They keep us in the dark, and keep shovelling shit on us!

Jim & Randall :this is a good point - I want to comment:

1. Pure Royalty or "Gratis" placements - the Royalties take up to 18 months to ever appear...meanwhile the person who has your song may be getting an upfront fee for it of which you get - you guessed it nothing...unless they offer you a share under a contract.

2. If your song is selected as one of mine was it does not mean you have to accept a "Gratis" contract...

3. Sometimes there is no contract offered - you are advised to deal with your PRO or wait for Royalties only..the thing is under this agreement - you have no cues sheets or any way of knowing who has used your song and you have to do all the admin work to track the song down and find cue sheets to get your Pro to pay you..because if they do not get the Cue sheets they will not know who used your song? therefore you will never get Royalties at all...

4. I think a bona fide library who contracts your track is great they promote and rep your song and share the placement fee with you..I think it's a better way to go..

5. We all need to value our Art...if you will never know who used your work as it is not reported to you then how can you understand where your music is being used and keep writing great tracks for similar uses? Potentially there are emerging mechanisms to track where your songs are used..guess what these will also cost you..but embedding Meta Data and tracki g it a great way to go...

Hmm I wonder if we are all better realising that so called "Gratis" placements unless they come with the relevant information shared about your songs usage and who. has used it are not worth our time...

Exposure can be great..but we all need to be careful that we are not handing a song over in perpetuity for someone to make great money on which we will potentially not ever see a return on?

There are many issues to watch out for but overall I think Broadjam does a great job offering opportunities it's the details in a contract that need to be well considered - or the lack of them?

Best

Mx!

Hi D Carl, Thanks so much for the kind and thoughtful review of "frostbite heart". I agree with much of what you said in the review including that it would work better as a pop song. In the last few days I put two versions of it on Broadjam.
I would love to hear your input on those if you get a chance to listen to them I don't know how to link it but just click on my name and you will see them. Hope you can check those out I think you may like them better. Different producer but same vocalist.

Thx for the stars in new songs. Love to hear any feedback on any of them if you want. No biggie if not.

Thx for stars on Frostbite Heart (pop)

I also put up a new song "Between the Raindrops".

And Another Frostbite Heart (light rock)

I'm not sure which one I like best

And lastly just put up Magic of Music (r&b). It turned into r&b style after the male singer sang it. I don't care for r&b much but he has a great voice

Anyway any feedback in these other songs would be welcomed.

Thx again.

It's a lovely song, Randall, starting off wistfully and going into an atmospheric chorus. It has your beautiful way with melody. Between the two of us, we'll make sure it rains all over Broadjam!

Funny write it about 3 years ago, before I was on BJ. But I notice you have a few rain/snow/flakes titles. Just a coincidence. I actually was having a hard time coming up with a title for the song.
For the first year or so it was unnamed. KaytLynn's mom was the one who suggested the title and I liked it

Author
John Walradt

After I come up with a melody, either I know what the title is right away or I have to wait for the tune to let me know what its title is, and sometimes that can take months or years. "Rainflakes" was Lora's title and lyrics. If you've ever experienced Boise, Idaho in November, the fall and winter struggle with each other not knowing which way to go and the days are gray and dreary.

Hey, Robert Quigley did it, too, with "Give Me Rain," and Jeana has "Head in the Clouds." But you do have that picture of the sun you put on your profile now and then. There, maybe that's your pass!

Thank you many times over, Randall! That melody came to me in a dream last January and I thought someday the tune would let me know what the title and song would be about. It's a very special song for us. Thank you again, Randall.

Ah! Melody in a dream! That happens to me sometimes, it's very cool. Once in a while I hear a whole song just like I'm listening to it on the radio as clear as if I was really hearing it on the radio. The problem is by the time I wake up it's either gone or I have no idea how to put it down into musical notation so the best I can do is kind of hum the melody and remember it from that. But in my dream I hear all of the instrumentation and everything just like a completely produced song. Too bad I can't write music in notation!

I just remembered something...I taught myself how to read music in about one hour in the easiest way possible...with a book from the childrens section of the library (or even an online site). If you really want to learn something fast, go to the childrens section. I was going through the short lessons in the small book and was playing the notes and realized I had read and played "The Mickey Mouse March." After that, it was practice, practice, and I notated my songs, but I knew what I was doing and it was a kick! I still can't read fluently, I read slowly, but I know how to put together a song in Band-in-a-Box because of it and I know what other musicians who read music are talking about. Now, about waking up from a dream with a tune...I just sing it into the microphone and record it quickly, or use my midi controller. I don't care if I do it at 4 in the morning. The first song that came to me in a dream was "Sunny Sunday" back in 1976. I dreamt I was listening to it on the radio in Winstead Park in Boise. There was just a green picnic table with a radio on top and was playing John Denver's newest hit. When I woke up, I thought I gotta go out and get that song. Then I realized I had dreamt it! Another song that came from a dream: "She Has a Way" (I dreamt the Eagles did it).

Hi, Randall. How have you been during this HOT summer? I'm in Philadelphia. You? Anyway, music is certainly a tough racket. I did sign 2 contracts (Here You'll Stay, You Need a Wife) but I haven't heard back. Meanwhile, I just published a book. It's called, "But is He Jewish? and Other Quirky Tales." It's on Amazon if you like to purchase it. Musically, I'm instrumentalizing some of my folk songs (Boston, for example) and jazzing up some ballads (Where is My Love?). How about you? Has Spotify helped you? I'm on it but don't give it much attention. I still prefer Broadjam though I sometimes can't believe the songs that are picked especially what they consider rock. I'll be posting a few videos in the next few days. I'll let you know about them once they're posted. Dan

Hi Daniel, you are a writer also? Wow very cool. I'll have to look into that. My sister is also a Writer. you may like her stuff. "Mishigazz and mazel Tov". Funny Jewish humor short stories. Her name is Stephanie Lewis. Hey, I LOVED your comedy routine. The Woody Allen joke was hysterical!
I've signed a couple contracts with Broadjam also but so far not seen one dollar in revenue LOL. However a few of my songs of appeared on the women of substance podcast so I guess I've gotten some decent exposure but that's about it.

I have some great ideas for comedy myself but I'm not able to do the good delivery like you are. I love to meet you one of these days but I'm never in Philadelphia. If you are ever in San Diego please let me know
