With you on that Warren! I responded to Hank directly on a post he sent to us all. As a Canadian, it is horrifying to watch America seemingly split in two on many issues. :(

Hello Steve my friend, long time no hear, hope you are well, and why are there so many seemingly sane Canadians, though lately you've had a few wacks yourself...like a virus, "it's" going around...hope it end sooner than later...
Stay safe my friend, so glad to hear from you...
Peace,
Warren

Steve, your song, "No One Loves Me Like U Do" is a Catchy, swinging song which is still going around my head. Very memorable! Great vocals. Who is he? Accessible? The backing is quality and uncluttered! Sorry, but I will not have enough time in life to hear all your "Hits" (songs) on here. You are Prolific! What a profile, Catalogue and Success rate Licensing!
Appreciate your input/ advice to my conversation with Jeana and Bob!
"Shelter In Your Loving Arms", I like as Lounge Music! Should be on an Airport/ hotel Lounge Playlist! (Probably is!)
Steve, I use a fellow Canadian, Kimberley Dunn from Ottawa for my songs. Maybe you have heard of her!
She is Ottawa's Foremost Entertainer! Re: weddings, funerals, political conventions, Private and Public etc.
A lovely person who writes and records her own and others work from her own studio!
Her rendering of my, "The Promise" (piano), "Drift Away" and "One Night Stand" are I think, Superb!
She actually has, "The Promise" on her site to offer clients for End Of Life Ceremonies. Popular because of the Lyrics and Melody! It's in esteemed company with five Classics!
Apologies, should be complimenting you on your many, many successes I see listed!
I've noticed for a while You have a fair presence on Top Ten Charts also!
I am in awe!
I can learn from you!
Congrats! Jim

Your piano sings yet again! The song I selected to hear was, "I Will Love You Forever"! It is a lovely melody in your own intimate style Jeana! I would like it on my Playlist but my Six Months, 2 nd tier membership has now lapsed and Broadjam will not let me access or add to my Playlist when back on free membership.
At the beginning, I decided to try Broadjam until the end of the year, to see if any of my small folio of my music was good enough to be licensed. I have spent a fortune on Licensing opportunities, and although I had some small success, I will leave at the end of this year.
I have enjoyed reparte with many extremely nice, and so talented, people on Broadjam and learned a lot from respected members such as yourself, but it is clear that my songs are not good enough for what is wanted by the music establishment.
I have not heard a song of yours that didn't resonate in some personal or emotional way.
I have a couple of songs almost ready to put on Broadjam, so I can direct anyone to my small folio here!
Your music and Unique sound however, should be in films! Have you heard of
Morgan Rhodes? She gives the impression she hunts for that something which is different so that she can put it in Movies, Shows, TV etc.
Please look her up! She is a renowned Music Supervisor! And the real deal! Jim

Hi Jim--Thanks again for listening and your kind words. I feel your pain about the submissions, I haven't had very good luck either. It really feels like a shot in the dark. That being said, your write beautiful music that is worthy of opportunities, so try not to be discouraged. I try not to think about how much I have spent over the years on submissions! You have a good plan to just post your songs on Broadjam and use it as a site you can share the link to your songs. Plus you can still interact on here, even with a free account (I think). Looking forward to hearing your new music! I'll look up Morgan Rhodes. Thanks for the tip. Hope you still interact on Broadjam, you are a positive influence. I would say quite a few of us feel the same way about the listings, but we feel a sense of camaraderie just being able to share our music and have the support from fellow musicians.

Good words Jeanna. It's tough to get anything picked up, it seems there are very few who actually get that far. I have decided to leave several times, simply because I cannot resist submitting songs from time to time, and the cost does add up. However, there is considerable encouragement and camaraderie among us, and I enjoy that a great deal.
I guess it's the "you just never know" aspect that keeps us going. I also think it fair to say that, of all these types of site, Broadjam is probably one of the best respected.
I don't know you Jim but good luck whatever you choose to do. I have just had a good listen to the various versions of The Promise and its a very addictive piece of music, not in any way inferior. You just have to hold onto the fact that the right person hasn't heard it at the right time.

Nice words Bob. Appreciate it! Your name pops up regularly on here and I'm in awe of your pedigree !
Thanks for the stars and Playlist inclusion of "The Promise Music"
Your work is quality: Same as Jeana whom I have a lot of respect for.
I reckon some of my songs are lower quality, and different, but some, I'm sure will stand the test of time!
I think both, "The Promise" and "Drift Away" are in the Latter category. The rest are fun!
I am adding another fun song now which I enjoyed writing.
I have a fair amount of licensing credits and will use them more prudently than before, until they are gone. My greatest benefit on here is communication and kindred spirit with great Artists whom I count as friends.
We have a common bond! Delighted if we could befriend!

Apologies Jeana, I realise I have replied to Bob and not your comments!

Sorry to barge in on such a wonderful thread. I just wanted to convey to Jim that the easy part of this business is writing the material. Marketing your creation is another story. I am a believer that we should not have to pay a submission fee to get your music heard. Outside of BJam there are a gazillion Music libraries that you music can reside on and not cost anything. They are different of course and many may not work but, unfortunately, that is the business element that many musicians struggle with. I prefer 24/7/52 libraries that are searchable. Based on you inputting Metadata with your song , interested consumers, music supervisors and Advertising people may stumble on your creation. Other Music Libraries 'audition' your music and, if successful, they pitch it like crazy. No cost. Some libraries are "Royalty free' so that is another consideration. I find many submission opportunities very weak on this site and paying the excessive fees is a drain. But from the perspective of holding your music and allowing creativity in building your web page, etc., it is hard to beat. Bjam started ad s the IT support for "TAXI" which was the #1 place to go to get placements. When TAXI terminated the relationship because they could duplicate what Bjam did, the Broadjam turned around and duplicated the Licensing Opportunities game and for the same price.

Not barging in Steve, always good to hear ideas and comments from all quarters. For me, I'm getting on in years now and have tried a few different sites. The truth is that so much is chance but, obviously we can all improve our chances. Way back, I was lucky to have a very famous UK act of his day, Joe Brown, take a couple of my songs to a Nashville session, I was very excited about the opportunity to get a song or two on his country album. I didn't see him for some months later and he was very sorry to say they didn't make it but that there were songs coming at him from every direction, from top songwriters, by fax, from pluggers, agents etc. Also talked to Charlie Pride's tour manager when I worked in the theatre, he was going through Charlie's post. I noticed some packages which obviously had cassettes in them and asked what he did with them. He said he threw them in the bin unopened so they couldn't be accused of plagiarism at a later date!
In many ways, we do well just to get stuff under consideration when there are millions of people producing zillions of songs every year. I still really enjoy the creative process and being able to produce something not that far removed from what others get paid to write.

Aw man, you three are awesome Talents!
As are many more on here!
Your catalogues should be with top Producers of film, tv, ads, etc. permanently, instead of piecemeal punts at an opportunity where only one, or no songs are selected.
I agree with Bob that submissions really should be free.
I was notified that my song, "One Night Stand" was selected out of 199 entrants to be promoted for Starbucks 2022 ad campaign but Starbucks turned it down.
The maths of submissions says it all!

I only have five songs (with diff versions), or should I say six from today, but they have done well. There's three in Broadjam Europe, uk and Scotland charts.
With these five songs, I've over a dozen Semi Finalists Lyrics And Songs in various categories in UKSC. My very first lyric, "Sunset"achieved Finalist in 2019. I'm getting on, so giving it one big push this year to see if any success possible!

Bob, I hope you do not mind. I took a liberty with your info!
Yesterday, I read you had a song selected by Music of the sea.
I looked them up and thought I would put, "The Promise" in to see if they were interested. I liked the idea that the yep were seeking quality work and were willing to push it for many opportunities!
Within an hour of submitting it, I had a reply saying it was selected.
What happens now?

Author
Jeana Potthoff

Jim--I had songs picked up with Music of the Sea, but decided not to put them under contract in their music library because it was Exclusive for 5 years. They were asking for other high-quality tracks too, which if they got used then great, but I have songs in other libraries that just sit there, waiting to be found (as Steve pointed out about music libraries). If the library is non-exclusive, then no big deal if it just sits there because you can still submit your songs to other opportunities, but if it's an Exclusive library, you can't do anything with it until the time period is up (5 years or whatever the contract says). Now if they use your song a lot, or even a little, it may be worth it. Or, it could just sit in their library for 5 years, without any use.

Author
Jeana Potthoff

Plus the songs they picked are already in another library (non-exclusive) so in order for me to put them in an Exclusive library, I would have to buy them out of the non-exclusive library first.

Author
Jeana Potthoff

*when I submitted to the MOTS listing, I didn't read that it was Exclusive, so I was thinking I could submit anything but when I got the contract I realized it was Exclusive. Broadjam should send you an email telling you your song has been picked and by whom. In my case, I had to send an email to MOTS with the listing info to get them to send me a contract (which I still have in case I want to try exclusive songs with them down the road).

Author
Bob Bentley

Some years ago, I submitted for a MOTS opportunity and when I had a song selected I did exactly what Jeanna is warning against, I put all my songs on an exclusive contract with them. I knew it was exclusive but had got fed up with getting nowhere so gave it a go. Withing 3 months (with some help form BJ) I got out of the contract because their admin was exceptionally poor, nothing appeared amongst their library on their website, emails were ignored etc. When I recently had an old synth track picked up by them they actually encouraged me to give them as many as pos to build up "a portfolio". I managed to stop myself falling into the same trap again and will just leave them the one song to see what happens.
I've recently parted company with a publisher after about 5 years because, in spite of wonderous encouragement, nothing ever happened - they even scuppered a deal with one of the regulars on here! It is so difficult because they say you need a publisher/manager to open doors but if they don't do that you don't have the freedom to contract out your own music!!
Personally Jim, I wouldn't sign all my songs to MOTS, even though it is affiliated to Beyoncé Knowles's father's label apparently, but you take your chances. BJ told me MOTS had placed lots of songs, so who knows? Certainly not me!!!!
And of course I don't mind you checking out my info, it's there to be read.

I'm a bad boy. 1st I owe a debt of gratitued to my collaborators. Oh my how you make me shine. Couldn't do it without you. My current project is with Thierry Coupey / Possibly the greatest adventure I have ever undertaken.

Oh, BTW: I owe some 15 resonses to our neighborhood. Please give me some grace as i just penned 221 pages. Thierry penned 61 brilliant illustrations. Not to mention a soundtrack and narration.

I hope we will not disappoint. Truth be told, feels like I just wrote a 221 songs to support Theirry's exquisite illustrations along with a complete sound track. PHEW!

If all goes well and our attorney gives his blessings, sometime in September, we give birth. :>)
