Hi Michael, thanks for the review of my "live version" of my song, "Lumbering Mountain". It was recorded "live back" in 1971 at the astute Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. That is a "real live audience" and not AI. They didn't have AI back in 1971. And as far as I can remember, there were no "live clapping seals in the back ground". That particular evening, I was performing my opening show for The Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra at Cowtown. It was the first time that a Philharmonic Orchestra had ever performed at a rock 'n' roll venue. That was one of the very few "live performances" recorded of my shows, which is odd considering I toured as a solo-act from 1967 till 1981 and was playing about 150-180 shows a year. But, the NAME act normally were the ones who the sound guys recorded. I toured and opened as a solo, singer-songwriter and performer on guitar, piano, dulcimer and harmonica for people like: Linda Ronstadt, John Denver, The Jefferson Airplane, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, BB King, Poco, Eagles, John Lee Hooker, the Dead, Janis Joplin, Jethro Tull, Brewer & Shipley, Charlie Daniels, Kris Kristofferson, The Guess Who and many others. It was an amazing period in my career. After my final performance, the orchestra had me join them playing harmonica. After that the conductor gave me one of the gold-leaf music stands as a gift from the orchestra. I still feature it proudly in my studio. Yes, the track may not be one of the vintage pristine "live tracks" from the era because the mic set-up was set to record the orchestra, so it is a little uneven, but the essence shines through. I am grateful we could salvage the old tape and make a couple passes to transfer it to a digital format many years later. Also, respect your not caring for the song. Not every song is for everyone. I respect other people's opinions. I wrote that song as a tribute to my long-time acoustic guitar, "Polly", that I had custom-made back in 1966. I toured with "Polly" for years and is still my main recording guitar for acoustic. Every other guitar-ist who heard that guitar offered to buy it. Stephen Stills adored that guitar and offered me $10,000 to buy it. I refused. "Lumbering Mountain" was one of Stephen Still's and David Crosby's favorite songs I had written. I created a very special tuning for that song. I used to climb the tall hill behind my Kansas farm with Polly in tow and sat at the top of the "mountain" and write songs. There is a version that is not a "live" version on my album, "Lumbering Mountain". So, there is a little background to this song. I am sorry it didn't live up to your standards and expectations. But, at the time, it was what came from my imagination. Hope you have a great Holiday! Chester
Thanks for your review of It Feels so Wrong. Best wishes, Doreen & William
Thank you for taking the time and listening to my track 'Late Night Soiree' and the 5-Stars. Much apprecitated.
Hello Michael. Thank you for reviewing "Dark". Your feedback is very helpful. The best to you in life and music.

Thanks much for the stars/listen for When I See You! Much appreciated, didn't know anyone was left here... Cheers to you! Warren
Goodnight Moon (acoustic) needs the volume turned up a lot. Your mp3 wav file is the thinnest wav file I have ever seen in my life.
Thanks for the input. Unfortunately, I cannot delete or replace the file, as it is entered into a contest. But, You can find another solo version and the full studio version on my page. Thanks again!
Thanks Michael for the stars! Always appreciated when someone listens. - Kevin

Hi Michael, Thanks for taking the time to review my song, Kids Want Santa. I appreciate you listening and providing your perspectives. While I'm here I'll check out a couple more of your songs. Be and stay well! Frank
Hey Michael, I just listened to your Christmas in Pink. Nice concept and solid arrangement. I've been using AI for vocals for the last six songs that I've done. I can't sing to save my life, and don't have the resources to hire vocalists for my various "pet projects" so using AI has been a lifesaver for me. Your AI vocal has some of the artifacts that I experienced early on. What platform are you using? I've been using ACE Studio and have been getting pretty decent results as I've learned more using it. Keep working at it and you'll get that AI vocal to really sound great. Frank
Thanks for rattling my cage about the low volume on a sax tune you reviewed......it's a very old track but I'll fix it......
Hi Michael, Thanks for the review of "Sunrise in the City". That's a short piece I wrote quite a while ago for a specific "use case". In fact, I was asked to compose a piece of music, about 2 to 3 minutes long for the following scene from a screenplay titled "Presidential Matters" written by Gene Adamson here in Omaha: "Riverfront Park, Nashville: The sun begins to shine on the city, beginning a new day. The rays cut through the fog and glisten on the river, as a barge glides over the water. Homeless people sit on the riverbank, staring blankly at another day of broken dreams." Gene loved the piece, but alas his screenplay didn't make it very far. But it was a really fun project. Thanks again for the review and your honest perspectives. Frank
Hello Michael. Thanks for the review of my vintage song lima beans. Yep I love em. There's a lima bean festival in NJ. I think that they used the song. Mrs Kate
GREAT JOB in every way on Kingdom Of Smoke! Truth! And well produced as well, kudos! Warren Hein
Hi Michael, Thanks for your reviews of "Back On Track" and "Second Skin". I appreciate you taking the time to listen and provide comments/perspectives. That intro on "Second Skin" was supposed to depict a dance club scene. The lyrical version of the song (which I haven't recorded/published) is actually the story of when I met a woman in a club wearing a skin-tight catsuit type outfit... thus the title Second Skin. Myself and the engineer (David Caniglia) can be heard talking about her. And you probably already noticed that the club music is actually the pre-solo section of Second Skin. Anyways... I'll have a listen to a song or two of yours while I'm here. Thanks and be well, Frank
Thank you Michael, for the 5*s on Lovin' into Me with hipsmithsix ~ Michael Smith. Certainly appreciate you stopping by, especially since I have been rarely on the site of late. Thanks for the review of "I'm In Awe" I agree with all the points you mentioned... yes I do need to bring it up to date with better lyric and master it as well. thanks again, Marvin

Hey, I just saw your review of ZPD. Thanks for the props! The note slide is a simple thing to do, but depending on how your DAW works (assuming you are working strictly "in-the-box"), it might prove obtrusive to figure out. For me, I use FL Studio 20, and I simple layer one midi note above the other on the piano roll. The key, though, is to enable the "slide" function by clicking on the note you desire to slide up/down to. It looks like an isosceles triangle. So the result will be a slide/pitch bend that the channel plays back/records. You could similarly pitch bend the note by recording that parameter as an automation clip when recording your playback. So if you had a fader, knob, or mod wheel that is linked to the pitch of the note, you could achieve the same effect, and have even more physical control over the expression of the note's playback. This is just how I would do it any FL Studio, but it should work in theory for any DAW or even DI instrument you are recording.
Thanks for sharing. I went back and listened, and you should be able to make some money off that ZPD music! I still like that freeform slide part. I'll try what you say. Good luck with your music!
Thank you very kindly sir. I am still looking for opportunities to submit it to. Good luck with your music as well!

Although I'm a big fan of Broadjam and they have helped boost my career in leaps and bounds, you do get the occasional charlatan (or should I say unprofessional) Music Of The Sea is an example, I first dealt with them 3 years ago when he asked for a dozen tracks of mine but when i sent them via Dropbox he never downloaded them? And six months ago he requested several more track (unexclusive) only to discover the contract stated EXCLUSIVE? and a week ago Broadjam got in touch to congratulate me on several tracks chosen for a library? He sent a link saying follow the link and they will send a contract so I did but the link failed? The link was to "Music Of The Sea" (lol). Their website looks good but I have no idea what they are playing at? All the best to you! David
Thank you for the 5-star rating for my "Action Music Trailer." You create great music and I often see you on Broadjam as one of the most successful members. -Mike
