Story Behind The Song
I wrote this piece for my wife, Karen, and our Wedding Day - May 29, 1999. The poem, written in October 1998, came first and was subsequently set to music in February, March, and April 1999. This was the last composition to come to fruition for this album ("Live To Love, Love To Live"), and it is perhaps the most heartfelt as well.
I decided that this would be a beautiful piece to feature B.D. on the nylon string guitar. After all of the recording for the album was completed and we listened back, B.D. admitted that his favorite solo on the whole record was the one he played on this very tune. Since this song is particularly close to my heart, that meant quite a bit to me.
"The Promise" is a reflection of the meaning of our special day, proclaiming my wife's and my own common desire to carry out all of our life's intentions together, side by side. . .
