Epilogue (A Final Prayer)

Story Behind The Song

The "Epilogue" was another inspirational "accident". After mixing "Lullaby For Alexis", engineer John Bailey asked if we could do a quick mix of the string quartet alone, just for his own indulgence. When I listened to this string quartet by itself I was both moved and amazed at how well it stood on its own as a unified piece. So I added an ending, repeating the final chords with a keyboard strings sound, then overdubbing the final melodic phrase of the lullaby on orchestra bells. Because the last chords include a "plagel cadence" (usually found at the end of church hymns), it has an "Amen" quality to it that suggests both prayer and closure.
