Ship on the Ocean

Story Behind The Song

At the bottom of the ocean, in a long submarine, with water rising inside and air becoming poor, I imagined myself--trying to sum up the good and the bad that makes up my story and wondering if I was saved from my sins as a boy, could I be saved again. There is a great advantage to knowing your death is near-you can prepare. But first you have to believe that there is something to prepare for...

Song Description

I really felt detached from my faith and used the image of a lone, sinking ship on the ocean to describe my feelings. The ship finds a harbor to hide within. The sailor finds a weight around his neck (ancient mariner allusion), but is saved from the weight by someone he didn't even believe existed. Then he asks, "can I be saved again?" if he was once a believer, but grew faithless. There at the point of lost faith, the one he didn't believe in appears.

On a Ship on the Ocean (for the Russian Submarine ?KuRSK?)

On a ship on the ocean
I will find...a harbor to hide away
On a ship on the ocean
I will make...this bed my resting grave

If I could ever wake up
Would I be strong enough to push myself again?
If I would lift my lips to the cup

Will I become the man who sees you through to the end?

Can I be saved again?
Can I be saved again?
Can I be saved again?

On a ship on the ocean
I will find....a lover to keep my faith
On a ship on the ocean
I will cry...out to the Lord

If I could ever afford
To keep from turning away
I could be the man who is unafraid
....of anything
May my path not be bent!

On a ship on the ocean
I had found a weight around my neck
On a ship on the ocean
I was saved by you when I thought that you were dead

On a ship on the ocean
I will the Lord *** fin***
