Story Behind The Song
I was digging holes for a landscape guy and I could work all week and still be in the red. It made me wonder, "God, I don't see it. If you are gonna pull something on my behalf, I just don't see how." There are all these "waves" that come at you when you are breaking through-expenses, taxes, losses, unforeseen things that make you go 'hmm.' When you are trying to breakthrough, sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone and the people that you know--thus "I may not get there with you." When folks leave poverty, they have to determine to leave behind what they know to breakthrough--studying hard, working hard, thinking differently. This song is a study of those principles.
Song Description
Musicians and artists have to believe in themselves and be involved with their dreams for the long haul. If you don't have fortitude, fogedaboudit. This song illustrates the frustration with having to wait for a breakthrough.

Lyrics
hallelu hallelu
no more could i have benefitted or been lifted
no roof could cover the chills
from when you smiled for me
when no one else could spring from their sleep
they could not decide who to be
you became meaning for me
hallelu hallelu
nothing could cover the chills
from when you smiled for me
we fight to preserve out bearings
to learn what all these waves mean
remind me, remind me
of what I'm supposed to be
i may not get there with you!
i may not get there with you!
years of rent with nothing to show for it!
remind me of what i'm supposed to be!
every woman every man i know
some looking high, some looking low
for a place to call their own
remind me! remind me!
i was fighting my own war
pounding on your door
remind me of what i was fighting for!
we fight to preserve our bearings
to learn what all these waves mean
remind me. remind me
of what i'm supposed to be
i may not get there with you
i may not get there with you
years of rent with nothing to show for it
remind me of what i'm supposed to be
