Story Behind The Song
I loved someone very much who had a guilty concience. She thought that I was untrustworthy and would grill me for my thoughts. It was like being under the Hotlights. Deep inside, however, no one is really innocent. If the hotlights stay on for long enough, the truth will come out. And if it doesn't hurt someone, its probably not the truth coming out, yet. So careful with those hotlights!
Song Description
In the mafia movies--there are these guys with hotlights who put a guy in a chair and tie him up--and he ends up spilling the beans. I felt like that guy, though I didn't have any beans to spill--just a vindictive lover. I am glad she didn't have duct tape and a billy club!

Lyrics
The HOtLIGHts
Its always hard to lose the one
The one you love
That you love to hold
There?s no secret that is safe to keep
Keep to your own
When your cover?s blown
There, on the stairwell
You wanted out but she kept you in
Under the HOTLIGHTS
She wanted comfort but you gave her tears
It would be better if you hadn?t have hurt her
Hadn?t done wrong when you could do right
There?s no secret that?s still safe to keep
Under the gun
Under the HOTLIGHTS
It?s strange to tell
That to be the bad guy
You don?t have to hit, you don?t have to yell
It?s a gift the somebody gave you that you chose
to keep to yourself
(the world you cannot change)
if you?re like the ones that you try to change
you?re like the ones that you try to help
you?re like the ones that you try to change
you?re like the ones that you try to SAVE!!!
(then the world cannot be saved!!!)
There, on the stairwell
You wanted out but they kept you in
Under the HOTLIGHTS
They wanted hope but you gave them fears
