Lonely People

Story Behind The Song

I got off an airplane in Singapore. My last trip there was a time when I was absolutely infatuated with a girl (who later became my wife). On my second trip, she had dumped me. So in returning, I had to go through all the old experiences without her. That's the way you get over someone--go back to all the places you used to go--alone. You have to unattach the old attachments. Another side of the song is about me trying to leave my indulgence in loneliness. Stange, you end up hanging out with a lot of misery to find company. Isn't that what misery loves?

Song Description

Lonely people is about trying to leave the lonely people and trying not to become one of the lonely people--trying to keep the lonely people from coming around. Its a declaration of a lonely person trying to leave to lonely people to become one of the accepted people. Hey man, when the water drinks up the ground, it means that you got to stay with the lonely people to keep from being lonely. Bottoms up, silly.

Lyrics

Lonely people, I?m alighting
So don?t you stop by tonight
Careless people, I am writing
And scratching out my feelings by candlelight

You s e e, its in the a i r
The air I b r e a t h e d when you b l e w me o u t
So l o n g b e f o r e
And n o w its here a g a i n
Just like that L o n e l y D a y

Lonely people, I?m retaining
And its my anchor into sinking ground
Careless people, You should have known not to go throw out
When you saw her waters drinking up the ground
Lonely people, I have always feared being isolated
With my arms in the air and my cries the very last sound
