Song Description

When you love someone that is bad for you and breaks your heart. You would say Love is a hurtin thing. With a heart rending performance of Brian on vocals and Dennis on guitar and whom by the way wrote this song in 1971, with chior backing vocals from the ladies, Hurtin Thing is a stunning emotional song as good as any great blues song.

Story Behind the Song

I first wrote the song in 1971 after finding out the girl I was in love with and wanted to marry, was cheating on me. It was my first heartbreak and I poured my heart out in this song.

Love's a HURTING THING

LOVE ISN'T ALWAYS WHAT IT SEEMS
SOMETIMES IT CAN LEAVE YOU FEELING MEAN
YOU WANT ME TO BELIEVE
AFTER ALL THE TIMES YOU LIED TO ME
CAN'T YOU SEE IT'S A HURTING THING

SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE GIVING IN
THROW IT ALL AWAY LET YOU WIN
BUT YOU KNOW ME AND I'M NOT THAT WAY
TO LET YOU OFF SO EASILY YOU MUST PAY
IT'S NOT OK IT'S A HURTING THING

(CHORUS)
RUNNING HIDING LOVE IS HARD
LOVE LOVE IT'S A HURTING THING
RUNNING HIDING LOVE IS HARD
LOVE LOVE IT'S A HURTING THING

WHAT KIND OF FOOL DO YOU THINK I AM
LET YOU GET AWAY FROM ME NOT MAKE A STAND
AFTER ALL THE THINGS THAT I'VE DONE FOR YOU
STILL YOU TRY TO MAKE ME OUT TO BE YOUR FOOL
THAT'S NOT COOL IT'S A HURTING THING

(CHORUS)
REPEAT
