Derrick,
Just a note to let you know that AT LONG LAST I've finally gotten a chance to upload a new song to my BroadJam Playlist! RETURN FROM THE SEA. Take a listen and do take a look at the song description for its origin.
I'd love to know your thoughts o this.

I'm planning to retire in January and am looking forward to focusing more on my music AND being much more active on BroadJam :0)
Marie

Thanks man! That's some high praise. I just checked your stuff out. Really nice mix of styles and some great tunes. I loved the Redneck song and the Biker tune. Check out my biker tunes here on Broadjam...THIS BIKER'S BLOOD, CHROME IS WHERE THE HEART IS & I WILL BE YOUR LEATHER.

Here you go again! Did you intentionally put Ray Charles, Eric Clapton and Robert Johnson in that paper bag to shake it up for this bluesy-brew?
Nicely done!!

Hello Marie! Thank you for the nice comments. I wish I knew what songs you've been listening to...
Those are some mighty big influences you're listing there! Yeah...they're all there...along with Gregg Allman, Joe Cocker, Eric Burdon and more. What goes in must eventually come out!

WOW Derrick! In the first line I could hear the Ray Charles influence in your vocals and music! Nothin' more to say my friend. You nailed it!!!

I know this isn't an easy question, but how do I make my songs 'radio quality'?

So...as I understand it...I believe you might mean "broadcast quality". We see that a lot on Broadjam. I can't say exactly what would distinguish that level of quality from listener to listener. But here are a few things that I believe elevate a recording to that status. First, if it's a vocal song, then the vocal should be professional level...no matter the genre. Meaning, if you're not a good enough singer to sing your own songs then by all means hire someone to sing it! Make sure the vocals are clear and well placed in the mix. No cheap mics or overabundance of effects ( unless that's wha the genre calls for)
The next...and biggest component of broadcast quality is the addition of "real" instrumentation...be it guitar, horns, harmonica, etc. With all of the plug ins and loops that are available to anyone out there, producers/ music supervisors want tracks that have some real element/s on them to distinguish them from the rest of the stuff that's floating around out there. After that, it's really about a good quality mix and some mastering.
I hope that helps. Best of luck to you pitching your songs.

yes that helps a lot I'm no spring chicken but when it comes to the fine details I usually let somebody else take care of it but I do like to mix things myself from time to time and I've got a pretty good ear and I sing all my songs as I've sung on my life professionally there are always live components to my songs me a guitar or keyboard and my vocals are always there so I'll just keep plugging a long and let my ear be my guide. Thank you so much for your time!
