Vonmodik explores electronic music sub-genres with a tweaked approach. Vonmodik is a psyche. A thought. A secret agent of the mind. A place you want to be, a feeling you've had. A dream. A scene from a movie. A moment with a new found love. It is what you want to be. What you dream of becoming. Vonmodik is brief. It is fleeting, like a dream that runs from you the moment you wake. For me, Vonmodik is many things... unexplained, random, emotional. It can be whatever you want it to be. It is always different for everyone and you have to be drawn to it. It is free of form and free of boundries. Europop backgrounds and deep house beats, strange vocal characters with traditional ambient textures. It could be that some rules are twisted perhaps. Vonmodik just likes to explore and blend. Expect to be introduced to new combinations and mixtures from all over electronic map. For the listener it is a refreshing vacation from the expected.

Groovy basslines and euphoric soundscapes pepper “Untitled”. Vonmodik, the alter ego of Chad J.W. Anderson, is an innovative electronic venture that centers around stellar vocal arrangements. He feels that vocals are and should be a separate instrument and he proves that theory with glossy vocals like on “I’m Not Here”, which really showcases perhaps his greatest talent. But if you misinterpret any of his spacey rock songs as pretentious you’d miss the point of his serene and emotional underpinnings all tied truly around some classical pieces emoting the wonderful soundscapes he can weave. - J-Sin

REVIEW

Sea of Tranquility
Vonmodik is the alias name and alter ego of Chad J.W. Anderson. What you have here are 14 tracks of avant-garde, electronica, trance, ambient, and techno instrumentals, interspersed with some occasional vocal bits. It makes for a pretty intoxicating listen, at times the programmed synths and drums actually climb to such a pulsating crescendo that you can actually dance to the music. On some songs, Vonmodik creates an almost Tangerine Dream-like wave of ominous sound. There's even a little Latin electronic (!) style on the lovely "Fede Della Casa", a song featuring plenty of groove and repetitive rhythms. On "I'm Not Here", the one song that features vocals, thing slow down a bit and take on a more prog rock tone. All in all, this is a fun release, with plenty of juicy synths and danceable rhythms, a perfect CD to spice up your next party. http://www.seaoftranquility.org/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=2581

"Your vibe is great. ... you have a contemporary sound ala Erlend Oye, Radio 4, Cut Copy etc. Really nice tone and emotion ... great ideas and lots of great sounds." – TAXI.com review

Vonmodik's music includes a mix of traditional instrumentation with heavily layered, digitally generated programming to help produce an original and clearly-defined sound. Already an established and unique graphic artist, his approach to music emanates from a fresh perspective of sound experimentation. His modern influences include Orbital, Moby, BT, Junkie XL, Groove Armada, Deep Forest and Bent, while some of his classic pop favorties are Sting, Pink Floyd, Roxy Music, Duran Duran, The Psychedelic Furs and The Cure.

In other news today …

FAUX WRITINGS....

Vonmodik performed live on … I mean before the Queen of England in Covent Garden (mind the gap) to mark her 100th anniversary of something - despite Prince Charles’ objections. Vonmodik performed a crisp set of his hit, “I’m Not Here”. This included a 20-minute folk version when Vonmodik literally “was not there” … his publicist noted Vonmodik rarely performs in public (he was last seen performing in the men’s room at Dodger Stadium but that was some time ago and involved another career) and he never performs with or on his publicist. His act featured live puppets, barking dogs, howling wolves, small children, racing cars, clove cigarettes, drunken sailors and various thrill seekers.

Vonmodik's take on the event, “Uh … well … oKAY …” A man of clarity and purpose. Small time celebrity Bob Saget probably said it best, “He’s a fuckin poofter. Fuck him the fuckin poofter, fucking faggot.” Well, maybe Mr. Saget didn’t say it best after all. Grandpa Poe always said he never trusted that Bob Saget and he didn’t fool him for a minute (true story).

Okay, it was a tough night for Vonmodik … firstly, that isn’t really his name. The record company changed his name from Anderson to Vonmodik. They tried Andrews … well, never mind. His first name isn’t Von, it’s Chad. This made it very difficult because people kept calling his name, “Von”, and he didn’t know they were talking to him. In fact, he was heard to say, “Von’s Not Here” … and people said they thought the song was “I’m Not Here” … and Chad, uh Von, replied that he WAS, in fact, HERE and IS HERE and the song is about something else!!! … how stupid could these people be? Well, pretty soon I was outta There and now I’m Here writing this review. But, after all is said, “I’m Not Here” is Here To Stay and call him what you will, Vonmodik, Chad Von Anderson, Von Andrews, Julie Andrews, Eric von Rickhoffen, I don’t care … He Is Here, he has hair and you need to hear him if you haven’t already.

His next offering is entitled “Songs from the Shower” … Vonmodik promises to show his package being scrubbed by some of his friends. “This is a more intimate recording than ‘I’m Not Here’. People need to know me and know my body. I am the Life, the Way and the Truth …” Maybe a little too much information from Vonmodik.

… not my best but I had fun trying.

:: Bio ::

hello. Welcome to Von•mod•ik. Some of my earlier bios seemed loaded with propaganda. At one point Vonmodik was described as a name for my alter ego. It's simply not true. There have been moments when I wanted to write nothing about my music. "Just listen to it!" I'd tell people. But you gotta tell people something. So here is what I think Vonmodik is...

I have tried to keep my music hemmed in but that simply won't due. Many sub-genres are explored but my music does not conform to a particular flavor. From what I've heard most people hear the Vonmodik style in all my music whether that be a dark electronica track or a deep soulful house mix. So that's cool.

who this is ...

Hello, I am Chad. I was born in a little beach town called Ventura (Ca). It was a nice town. My first music lesson was at Junior High school there, the drums! That got boring fast as you weren't aloud to do much (or be loud). So I moved on to trumpet. I remember my teacher said "you've got talent with that horn boy". I didn't learn to read music so again that was short lived. Mom got me my first keyboard at age 14. Since then there have been countless schools, teachers, instruments, lessons. Honestly they didn't do much on their own. But as a whole a learned that I am not content with one instrument, that's when composing/producing started. Fast forward some years. Today I am an artist of many sorts. I've had a lot of fun and success in my visual art career. I've designed for everyone from Usher to the President. In 2004 I pulled out some of the many tracks I had created over the years and found a renewed passion. That led to the idea that I should share it. My first offcial album was released in 2005 as Vonmodik: Untitled, on my own little baby label, Bionnic Music. Vonmodik is part of me. But I also think it is part of everyone. Who knows where we'll be in six months. V.

my influences... vangelis, depeche mode, duran duran, jan hammer, peter gabriel, sting & the police, pink floyd, brian ferry, roxy music, the psychedelic furs, the cure, talking heads, the cult, simple minds, art of noise, London Symphony Orchestra, Yes, OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark), Deep Forest, Crash Test Dummies, Tangerine Dream, Erasure, Lee Ritenour, Book Of Love, Level 42, Joe Satriani, Ian Gillan & Roger Glover, Hans Zimmer, The Fixx, Yello, Special EFX, Genesis, Mr. Mister, Wang Chung, Prince, Dire Straits, Thomas Dolby, The Clash, Mozart.

some say Vonmodik sounds like underworld, raven maize, orbital, bt, junkie xl, groove armada, deep forest, bent, blue states, the orb, robert miles, chicane, weekend players, chemical brothers, filter, jakatta, cut copy, radio 4, erlend oye, air, balligomingo, the ones, moby, paul van dyk, solar stone, conjure one, futureshock, Plummet, Baz, Zerosospiro, Zero 7, Way Out West, ueNN, Tiësto, The Sushi Club, StoneBridge & Therese, Sounds from the Ground & Taz, Seek, Scisssor Sisters, Rauschfaktor, Phats & Small, PFL, OceanLab
