Song Description

This recording was Scott's and my proudest accomplishment; we did everything possible to suggest the sweep of storm, sea, and sky on a dinky little home recorder. It starts off innocently enough, but it does buld, trust me

Story Behind the Song

As hurricanes go, Bertha was fairly mild, but still impressive enough for me to have written this record of her passing, including a section finished while she was still directly overhead.

Lyrics

The wind's on the waters down in Africa
The southern Atlantic heaves and sighs
The vapors are rising over Africa
The ocean ascends to meet the skies

And the satellites and tracking stations mark the fatal miles
And they're calling for evacuations 'cross the Leeward Isles

But the lines on the charts have spun alive somehow
The breakers array before the storm
The wind and the waters are in rapture now
Tonight they'll attain their final form

And the people of the coastal counties talk in undertones
As they watch the spiral shadows falling 'cross their lives and homes

I feel a slight disturbance
I feel a slight disturbance
I feel a slight disturbance

Down before the writhing sea
We clung together breathlessly
Across the waves of wild debris
To feel the majesty
To feel the majesty
To feel the rolling majesty

The waters .......

The wind's on the waters down in Africa
The southern Atlantic heaves and sighs
The vapors are rising over Africa
They'll send us another by and by

As the cameras pan across the shattered shops along the shores
And they say the power and the water lines
Could take a few days more

But the wind's on the water
The wind's on the water ......
