Story Behind The Song
I had recently begun practicing Wicca with a Chicago based group and was very enchanted with the depth and warmth of Wiccan thought and practice vs. the Christian Church. I was particularly touched by the compassion embodied in the coven structure. This was not a group of sexually frustrated nerds casting spells on their enemies. The coven was peopled with professional people, former clergy and students. Art and beauty abounded the gathering. I felt most at home here and experienced an epiphany that nature embodies a wisdom compassionate in it's non-exclusive application of its bounty to humanity.
This song grew from this inspiration.
It's primarily a folk-song. I featured my 1l2 striing through out this version of the tune. It is a song begging the grandeur of nature in its bells and orchestral strings, but at its core, it is a simple bardic folk ballad. I find it enchanting.
Song Description
"Window Jewels..." is tune that borrows heavily from medieval musical progressions in a gothic manner to illustrate and narrate the character of the Church and Nature based beliefs.

Lyrics
moonlight shines upon the steeple
stained glass robbed of jewelled light
golden crosses reach for wishes
cast up in the night
on the other side of piety
where dancing spiral 'round
mercy heals the carnal spirit
earth and heaven bound
sought and searching fragile heart
held fast in dark repose
love unbinds unfolding outward
like the rose
earth and moon and flame and water
each to have its way
ask and it shall obey
wind borne clouds now pass the steeple
like the shades of life expired
such a speeding luminesience
Heaven's holy fire
just beyond the nimbus calico
cascading through the night
glowing curtains cast Polaris
in the Northern Lights
moonlight shines upon the steeple
and the window jewels and crosses
opened hands reveal the people
mourning mortal loss
and the freely given oracle
extends a patient hand
earth and moon and flame and water
woman and the man
