Story Behind The Song
See above.
Song Description
I was home at my folks' place housesitting while they fled the cold of winter in Florida. This was the year I was to turn 40. I began writing a list of things I had yet to achieve. It was staggering and I felt depressed.
When this sort of thing happens to me I usually write poetry that later becomes lyric. That is what I did. I love to have lyric preceding music. It provides a challenge.
I had brought my little four track Tascam, my Guild acoustic and Roland Juno 160. I created the melody rather quickly.
However the arrangement, the performance of the piece was the problem. I tried it as an 80s dance tune but the music overwhelmed the message.
I backed off and re-recorded it as a light jazz flavored piece and that seemed to work.
So the tune has remained until recently; i re-arranged it as a Sad Wave tune. This seems to be the right way for me to do it now. But I present this because of Suzan McDonald's vocals and my foray into light jazz arrangements.

Lyrics
into the night
sad and dark the cool, concluding space
into the night
a kinder light to trace this pilgrims face
born beneath Orion
niether predator nor prey
heirless, void of property
so far along the way
into the night
into the night
where solace brought me
soft oblivion
into the night
and the lap of indigo i slept upon
gone beyond and gone beyond
the bonds of self deceit
gone beyond the rif
so fast expanding at my feet
into the night
into the night
all that i believed myself to be
into the night
never was, now is, nor shall now be...
gone beyond, beyond, beyond and gone
