HOW DID YOU KNOW?

Story Behind The Song

Tommy's lyrics were culled from conversations with mutual friend Betty Pellerito. Tommy said he felt like it should have a country rock feel, but this came out more like Tom Petty-meets-Neil Young.

(CHORUS)
How did you know, I needed you so?
How did you know, I needed you so?

(VERSE)
How this all started on that fateful day,
Looking oh so colorful in your beret,
Me trying to smile, and you walking the other way,
Me silently hoping you'd turn back my way.

(VERSE)
I only felt the sweetness and the light,
From the day you walked into my life,
When I imagine I'm in your arms, you holdin' me tight,
You are my angel baby, with that smile so bright.

(CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)
Now it's my turn to be your superhero and keep you from harm'?s way.
It'd be my job to see that you were safe and warm each day.
This love, we two could make it last forever,
And ever and ever.

(VERSE)
Before we got close, could you feel the pain?
Could you see my tears through the wind and rain?
The unrighteous times for me were unexplained.
My forlorn life has now completely changed.

(CHORUS 2x)

I liked the easy laid back feeling of the song.

A seemingly simple, conventional folk song with a story to tell and a steady beat, but this song is deeper, wiser, wryer that most of its fellows. It tells in its steady , calm and pleasant time about getting older and needing not just to be loved and cherished but needing someone to love and cherish and to be good to, take care of - love tenderly. The voice is handsomely hoarse, warm and slightly vulnerable.

Nice vocals. Nice instruments. Good lyrics. Good arrangement.

I love this song. Will have to add to my playlist. Thinking it reminds me a little of Randy Newman. I like the vocal style of the singer alot. A very unique tone. The words are so clearly pronounced sounds perfect with the tone.
