Story Behind The Song
I remember EXACTLY what this song is about, even though it was written 15 years ago. I did some volunteer work, every week while living in Sydney with street people. I'd go out at night and we'd all meet together in Kings Cross and i'd feed them, sing to them, and often hold their hands and listen to them talk and cry.... I saw so much sadness. So many old men in particular, like little children, who just needed to be told they were lovable. It touched me deeply and so I wrote "Wounded Heart'.
Song Description
This song is about being really honest and upfront about our vulnerabilities and the masks we all wear at times in our lives... to hide the pain. It's about being humble and truly honest before God and saying, hey, I need help. I am just like a little kid at the moment and I need You to touch my heart and help to heal me. So, although this song is quite sad and poignant, the chorus also speaks of great hope.

Lyrics
~ WOUNDED HEART ~ c 1991
1. Behind the mask. There is a little child.
A burning need inside us all.
But it is hidden in a veil of darkness.
Too afraid to hear the call.
But there's a longing and I hear You calling me.
And I remember my souls desire....
To be completely loved in all my humaness.
If I trust you, Jesus. Would you comfort me.
CHORUS : Hold me in your arms and touch my wounded heart.
Cos I need your gentleness.. I long for love.
And I know You see me as I really am.
Oh my sweet Jesus.... touch my wounded heart.
2. Behind the mask. There is a lonely child.
Who's crying out. Inside us all.
But it is hidden ... in a veil of darkness.
Too afraid to hear Your call.
But You are calling me... And I hear You in the stillness.
Oh my sweet Jesus. I see Your face of love.
And as I look at You in all my humaness.
I will trust You Jesus... to comfort me.
CHORUS : Hold me in Your arms. And touch my wounded heart.
Cos I need Your gentleness. I long for love.
And I know You see me as I really am.
Oh my sweet Jesus... touch my wounded heart.
Oh my sweet Jesus... touch my wounded heart.
