Equal! (feat. Jenny McGregor)

Story Behind The Song

First of all, I am thrilled that the incredible Jenny McGregor sang vocals on this song. Be sure to visit her page! This song was a year in the making. It grew out of my having Aspergers syndrome, which makes social interaction difficult, and makes for being treated differently. I also believe that the feminist movement was the most important civil rights movement of our time. I put my personal experiences and beliefs into the song and I wanted to write the words so that they would be easy for most anyone to identify with.

Lyrics

Equal!
That's all I want to be
Like the sun and sea
Like the sun and sea,
Ah, ah, ah,
That's all I want to be
Like the sun and sea
Like the sun and sea.
Ah, ah, ah, ah.

I see you fit into the scheme of things
The quest for power, the fight to seize.
Now tell me, do you walk in harmony
Or do you rule over all you see?
Yeah.

What does it take so you can be the best
To get the most love and respect
Is there room for me to chase my dreams
To find my joy, to just be free.

Equal!
That's all I want to be
Like the sun and sea
Like the sun and sea,
Ah, ah, ah,
That's all I want to be
Like the sun and sea
Like the sun and sea.
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.

It's not too much to ask to feel alive
And not be kicked or cast aside
To be part of life just as myself
Instead of trying to be something else.

Equal!
That's all I want to be
Like the sun and sea
Like the sun and sea,
Ah, ah, ah,
That's all I want to be
Like the sun and sea
Like the sun and sea.
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.

Great singing and playing throughout the song. Excellent finger-picking guitar, electric guitar and bass. The "equal" hook works very well, nice and infectious, easy to remember.

very good musicianship i loved the lead sneaking in! be interested in knowing where this was done!

Loved the energetic intro. This song has a very positive vibe. Passionate delivery. Just enough anger in the passion not to be caustic, but motivational. Nice work on the keys and guitar riff. And what a voice! Pure and totally heartfelt performance. Nice job on those high notes. I like the message of this song!

Great style and scope on this song, really enjoyed the fun nature of it! Has great potential for that next level!

All round good job ! Super sympathetic backing track , some nice harmonies that compliment fully the lead vocal .

Great voice. The guitar pairs well with the vocals. Magical atmosphere, in the track there are just all the colors of the rainbow, very energizing with positive and freedom.

Well-recorded and the vocal is effective overall. Not totally my style, but I get the vibe completely.
