Story Behind The Song
writin' on 80 east, somewhere between fort wayne and the pennsylvannia line, heading home from a wonderful visit to ohio and indiana. there i met and enjoyed the hospitality of some new musician friends, who i later collaborated with on several songs.
a bit hung-over, but well caffienated, this melody and the initial lyrics came to me out of nowhere that morning early on during the drive home. i had to pull over at an ohio truck stop, where i popped the hatchback, pulled out my guitar and fingered the basic chords to try to fix the song structure in my mind.
this song is a manifestation of the wonderful post-visit vibe...that emotional wave i was fortunate enough to be riding at the time.
i later realized that the song needed, and deserved, endearing wings to fly like it could.
and it wasn't gonna do that on my voice...at least not singing the lead. my insticnts told me that paige sessa could voice this well...and she sure does.
she and bobby barton, who are friends i met at bodles opera house in chester, ny , were good enough to come into the studio and record it with us...in one session. i later added the faint voc harmonies, which seem to stay just enough out of the way. so that's the story. hope ya like it. i think it's an endearing pleasant tune that came from a good place.

Lyrics
Passing Time
words & music by JL Hannah copyright 2005 BMI
Verse
we're searching for a dream left behind
reaching for a hint toward forever
looking for that seam, that one line
hopin' for a door to wide open...wide open wide
maria has a friend, but doesn't know it
her strings have been asleep for some time
one brush they're both awakened and flowin'
hidden in each note there's a rhyme
she can feel the rhymes
she can feel them riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiise
on a breeze they'll fly
so don't let them go, oh no no no no...maria follow
Chorus (slower & tender)
so if ya feel a breeze, take the time
to see it further clear and try to know it
cause if ya don't, it won't ease your mind
then there ya go again
passin' time
and it 'al pass ya by
it 'al pass ya right by
Verse
ah the kids' god-sent don't ya know it
i luv to watch her smile release their frowns
in different times ya know i must have known her
in a different life, somewhere someway somehow
we were somehow bound
cut born from the same grooooooouuuund....ah ah yeah
though it's somehow so
there's no way to know
so i'll just follow
Chorus-repeat
so if ya feel a breeze, take the time
to see it further clear and try to know it
cause if ya don't, it won't ease your mind
then there ya go again
passin' time
and it 'al pass ya by
it 'al pass ya right by
Bridge-instrumental
Verse
thales says it's all there in the water
livin' in the dew lives the life
wild fields of blue and green, yet there's an order
the breathin' in the grape breeds the wine
and you can breed fine wine
if you just give it your care tiiiiiiiiiiime...ah ah yeah
so don't let it go, oh no no no no
ya gotta follow
Chorus-in shifted key uptempo
so if ya feel a breeze, take the time
to see it further clear and try to know it
cause if ya don't, it won't ease your mind
then there ya go again
passin' time
and it 'al pass ya by
it 'al pass ya right by
it ál pass ya right by right by right by right by
don't let it pass ya by
