Story Behind The Song
i wrote the lyrics while visiting lake las vegas, where i was so struck by this tranquil setting vs what we all know is Las Vegas..the city. the contrast is also metaphorical in a general approach to life, what we value ...or don't sense.
Song Description
about the striking contrast between Lake Las Vegas (the desert community that sits just outside of las vegas) and the city of Las Vegas...so close geographically...yet couldn't be more different....commercially, mood-wise, phyisically, attitudinally...the vibes...the glitz and it's absence.. a very cool contrast

Lyrics
On It's Own
words & music by JL Hannah & Rickey Spallone copyright 2004 BMI
well, this place here it's a special special space on earth
we're on the edge of peaceful tranquility
yet within an ear-shot of total, complete, utter, relentless...awake
yeah, right here is where the line defines how ya dream, and how ya escape
so choose your road to the sleepy desert or the neon cityscape
won't ya leave
won't ya leave it alone
don't want your wind round here to stir up no storm
it's a sea, it's made of sand and stone
and out here we let the rain fall down, down on it's own
all alone
now just 30 miles to east the storekeeper greets his day
the same day, in his own way
it's a fine day for business, for business
i can feel deep deep deep down in my bones
we got conventions comin' in, conventions goin' out,
convention says that conventional wisdom is they're comin' to my store,
to buy some more
so step right up, step right up, step up right here, cause we got stuff galore
we got black ones, blue ones, tall ones, red ones
we got stuff and more stuff
we got stuff galore
stuff galore
so won't ya leave, leave it alone
don't want your wind round here to stir up no storm
it's a sea, it's made of sand and stone
and out here we let the rain fall down, down on it's own
alone
yeah, on it's own
