Orange County has been ranked as one of the wealthiest counties in America. In some cities more than others, there is so much disposable income that people tend to be less genuine about who they are and hide behind their material possessions. I don't remember what it was, but something triggered the repetition of "more, more, more" in my thoughts and that became the foundation for the chorus of this song. The rest of the lyrics developed from a back and forth between the superficial (more stuff) vs. the substantial (more you). I definitely had a lot of fun working on this song.
Our society is groomed to want more, buy more, and get more; but the old adage that "money doesn't buy you happiness" is the central theme of this song. Because when it comes to love, the most valuable thing you could give to someone is your heart...more of you.
Cruising 'round with your drop top down don't make you top notch on my list. It's the way you stare at my windblown hair that gives me pure, pure bliss. Flowers, cards, and candied hearts don't speak for words your lips should say. Rub my back, draw me a bubble bath to show your loving every day. Baby, maybe one day you'll come to understand. It's easy, to please me, here's what it takes to be my man. | CHORUS I don't need more, more, more of your fancy things. I just need more, more, more of what your loving brings. I don't want more, more, more of your material things. I just want more, more, more of you. | Designer shoes from that Italian cruise are not enough to curl my toes. But you can bet that walk before sunset will take you further than you know. That diamond ring that circles round my finger don't bring sparkles to my eyes. But your promises for never ending kisses are enough to make me smile. Baby, maybe one day you'll come to understand. It's easy, to please me, here's what it takes to be my man. | CHORUS| Baby, maybe one day you'll come to understand. It's easy, to please me, here's what it takes to be my man. | CHORUS
