Song Description

The song is about how the "darker and ornery" side of a woman's personality can suddenly emerge without warning after sexual relations begin, presented as a humorous story.

Story Behind the Song

THE TRUTH ABOUT WOMEN Once upon a time, on a Valentine's day, I was leaving band practice to meet my girl (it was to be our first night back together after an ugly breakup). As we were getting ready to leave, one of the band members asked me if I was still seeing her and I told him we were getting together tonight. Then he said to me "what a really sweet girl she is"! And I suddenly heard this "voice" somewhere in the room, and this "voice" coldly replied to him, "Yeah, until you start F...ing her". And there wasn't a sound to be heard in that room for what seemed like several minutes, and then the entire band erupted into laughter, and I could see it in all their eyes they knew exactly what that "voice" had meant! And I'm suddenly thinking to myself, "there's song material here". And so ladies and gentlemen, the D. A. was born. And don't be surprised if one day soon you hear the phrase "Did you wake up with the D. A. today??? Enjoy! Cameron Smith

INTRODUCTION:

I LOVE WOMEN, I REALLY DO, IN FACT, MY WHOLE LIFE REVOLVES AROUND THEM

AND I BELIEVE DEEP DOWN, MOST WOMEN ARE SWEET AND KINDHEARTED

THAT IS, UNTIL YOU START SLEEPING WITH THEM, AND THEN SOME OF THEM CHANGE, OH YESSS

NO, NOT AFTER THE FIRST TIME, THAT'S WONDERFUL, OR THE SECOND OR THIRD, THOSE ARE GOOD TOO

BUT SOMEWHERE IN NOT-TOO-FAR-AWAY-LAND YOU'LL SEE HER OTHER SIDE, AND ONE MORNING BEFORE SHE EVEN OPENS HER EYES------SHE'S PISSED OFF!!

AND WHEN SHE GETS UP, SHE ALREADY KNOWS THAT NOTHING GOOD CAN COME OF THIS DAY, IT'S PREORDAINED

I CALL IT, "WAKING UP WITH THE DARK ASS"!!!

THEY JUST WAKE UP WITH IT???

AND THERE'S NOTHING TO BE DONE EXCEPT TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT SUNRISE AND HOPE IT'S GONE AWAYYY

AND THAT BEAUTIFUL SWEET WOMAN YOU KNEW HAS SUDDENLY TRANSFORMED INTO A "SNARLING GRIZZLY AWAITING YOUR AFFECTIONS"

VERSE 1:

WAS HEADED HOME FROM WORK AND BOUGHT SOME FLOWERS AND WINE

SOME LOVIN' FROM MY LADY I WAS HOPING TO FIND

SHE WAS TO ARRIVE FOR ME PRECISELY AT NINE

I ANXIOUSLY AWAITED CAUSE SHE'S JUST SO
"PRETTY, SWEET AND FINE"

THE KNOCKING SOUND AT NINE WAS ALL I NEEDED TO HEAR

BUT LURKING AT THE DOOR WAS EVERYTHING THAT I FEARED

DARK, MEAN, ORNERY AND SHE
"FILLED MY HEART WITH DREAD"

I BACKED A-WA-AY FROM THE DOOR
"AND THEN I HEARD A VOICE THAT SAID"

CHORUS 1:

DON'T BRING YOUR DARK ASS HERE---COME ANOTHER DAY

DON'T SHARE YOUR CRAP WITH ME---TAKE IT FAR AWAY

DON'T LEAVE YOUR BAGGAGE HERE---WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT

DON'T PLAY YOUR GAMES WITH ME--JUST DEAL ME OUT

VERSE 2 BRIDGE:

WORST CASE OF THE DARK ASS I EVER SAW

VERSE 2:

I MADE UP WITH MY LADY AND WE HAD THINGS RUNNING SMOOTH

SHE TOLD ME SHE WAS SORRY AND SHE HAD SOMETHING TO PROVE

SHE ASKED ME HOW TO MAKE AMENDS, WHAT DID I HAVE IN MIND

SHE HAD ME BURNING HOT FOR HER BECAUSE SHE'S
"PRETTY, SWEET AND FINE"

THE CHEMISTRY AND PASSION OF THE EVENING WAS DEVINE

BUT WHEN THE DAWN OF LIGHT AWOKE, JUST WHAT WAS I TO FIND??

"DARK, MEAN, ORNERY AND I LEAPED RIGHT OUT OF BED"

I MADE A BREAK TOWARDS THE DOOR
"THAT'S WHEN I HEARD A VOICE THAT SAID"

CHORUS 2:

DON'T BRING YOUR DARK ASS HERE---COME ANOTHER DAY

DON'T SHARE YOUR CRAP WITH ME---TAKE IT FAR AWAY

DON'T LEAVE YOUR BAGGAGE HERE---WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT

DON'T PLAY YOUR GAMES WITH ME---YOU CAN DEAL ME OUT
