OVERVIEW

I've been writing since I was 15 or 16. Back then the lyrics were mostly parodies on top 40 songs and TV commercials. Looking back, that was probably one of the most important things I ever did in terms of learning how to write songs. I didn't really start writing my own songs until I was about 20 (that'd be over 30 years ago now), under the influence of Willie, Waylon, Marty Robbins, Buck Owens, Elvis (early), Johnny Mathis, Ian Anderson, Free (Paul Rodgers), Poco, 70s Eagles, Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, and God knows who else. I've taken a shot at playing just about anything you could play in a band but stuck with guitar. I also collect guitars - that's both a good thing and bad thing, depending on who you ask.

I write mostly in Country, but have written in the Blues, Folk, Rock, and Metal genres. I enjoy the Country genre because storytelling is important and the writing very precise (well, when it's done right!). I've written two novels, 20 or so short stories, and probably 500 technical reports (I was a tech writer/editor for nearly 20 years), and my greatest challange to date is still trying telling a good story in less than 3:30 minutes - apologies to Harlan Howard for adding that extra 30 seconds.

I live and work as an environmental consultant in north Georgia. I'm far enough away from Nashville to be independent; but close enough to demo songs whenever the songpluggers tell me I've got one that might be worth demoing.

One last thing - anywhere I've succeeded in my writing, I owe to my family and the people who inspire me. The failures - well, they all belong to me.
