John Denver orginally wrote this song as a love song for a girl named Bobbie early in his writing career ~ I used to sing it to my two little boys (Bobby & Michael) at bedtime before they went to sleep adding a few sound effects which I have done here ~

Looking a little too close into the mirror one day I noticed wrinkles in my ears... one more thing to ad to the pleasures of growing old gracefully or not so gracefully and then started realizing these may be the best years yet... I found "Let me grow lovely growing old" in a framed embroidery at a friend's home~after researching this beautiful poem written by Karle Wilson Baker many years ago I was inspired to put it to music...

WRINKLES IN MY EARS

When my children & I moved to a beautiful new home that happened to be close to a busy highway, I suggested we try to think of the sound of the ocean instead of cars speeding by. Although I haven't found my country home yet, I'm very happy where I am now still in the city overlooking a quiet laneway where people walk their dogs plus a large soccer field and tennis courts ~

Some may remember the last song on Linda Rondstadt's first "Canciones de mis Padres" album done very simply as it is here... I have always loved the music of Mexico including this very old traditional song ~

This arrangement is different and perhaps simpler that other versions of this song with the beautiful Paraguayan harp intro and throughout the song - perhaps my favourite instrument played so beautifully by Robin Grenon ~ plus a few tasteful guitar lines by my friend Davis Joachim ~

From my days living in Mexico many years ago ~ this song has always been one of the most popular when performing... The ranchera/huapango music of Mexico has always touched me in a very special way...

I actually can't remember how this composition came to me... I had already written the lower part of the song and the actual melody came to me as I was recording it... my first instrument is piano and I am not a professional classical guitarist in any way...

This is the original piano version to the Maya theme (Children of the Sun) that was used as background to the narration for The Story of Time written by Jose Arguelles. This composition came to me late one night as I was trying out my new keyboard - I recorded it and titled it 'Maya' and left it on a shelf ~ a few years later I received the manuscript from Jose Arguelles for The Story of Time asking me to put it to music... this theme was perfect for all of the narration parts... Going back to the 70's, Bob Dylan and The Band ~ I have always loved this song and often finish a performance with it so everyone can sing along in the chorus ~ great harmony possibilities which I love... In 1990 I won the vocalist of the year award at Fanshawe College ~ one of the best music production and sound engineering schools in Canada where one of my teachers was Jack Richardson~ reknown producer of the Guess Who, Alice Cooper & Bob Seeger ~
