Somewhere Down The Line

Story Behind The Song

As you can probably tell from several of the songs on the album, my faith is very important to me. I have worked part-time as a Christian contemporary music/worship coordinator for about 7 years, and literally hundreds of people have asked me if "Down the Road" is going to be a Christian album. Never being one to be short of words, that typically brings on a good 5-10 minute conversation. In a nutshell, I take them through the following logic: I am a Christian.....I wrote the material, which therefore includes my personal beliefs, values, morals, and ethics.....therefore, regardless of whether the songs are "in your face" about God and religion or not, they are, in fact, Christian songs. With that being said, "Somewhere Down the Line" is the one song on the album where there really aren't any gray areas regarding what it's about. I purposely kept it simple, without any harmony or backing vocals, as the song is just so pure and honest. I wrote this song at a time of heightened personal angst, as you might well have guessed by the content. Things just were not going well for me, and the harder I tried, the more it seemed like things kept getting worse. Once again, it's a universal feeling we all can relate to, as I doubt that anybody is exempt from those types of feelings from time to time. Through my faith, I realized that "this too shall pass," and that God would see me through to better times--which He certanly did, and always does.....Amen.

Lyrics

Somewhere down the line I see a better day for me
But is it real, or make-believe?
If this life I see comes true, I'll owe it all to You
As You bless me

And I know it's gonna take some time
And I know each day I'm on your mind
Amen

Somewhere down the line I see a new reality
When my smile will set me free
And through my eyes I will see the path You've set for me
And how You've blessed me

But I know it's gonna take some time
But You know each day it's on my mind
Amen

Somewhere down the line I see a chance to be
All You want out of me
When I get there, I'll look back on the trials I've had to pass
And I'll fall to my knees

Because I knew that it would take some time
And I'm thankful for this life of mine
Amen
