He is very numb and emotional detached/indifferent because the relationship that he has is completely dominated by her. She tells embarrassing stories about him, she condescends him, she makes him look bad. He, simply sits there and takes it, completely exhausted from having to defend himself every single time. He's given up, and the song is his inner dialogue to himself.
