Story Behind The Song
Heavily influenced by The Residents and Tom Waits.
Song Description
The first verse describes a character who decides to quit smoking by investing in measures to help him quit. As the end of the week approaches, though, he realizes his paycheck is better spent on his usual vices.
Verse two is about a woman who is not conventionally attractive, but who is convinced will eventually find the right guy for her. She finally surrenders her beliefs as hopeless when men still fail to notice her.
Third verse deals in the narrator's wondering about the meaning of life and starting to consider the possibility of the existence of a higher power. All of that is dashed, however, when he considers the ridiculous overzealousy of religious people and carries on as a non-believer.

Lyrics
Friday was the day he promised life would start to change
For earlier within the week he'd had some things arranged
His plan of action balanced on a check he hoped would come
And substitution of his cigarettes for Wriggley's chewing gum
Friday came quite early but the changes they did not
Most assumed he's simply changed his mind
Or maybe just forgot
She was not a pretty girl and people told her so
All she had was blemishes and hair that would not grow
She told herself she'd find a guy to take her out someday
And though she tried and often cried no boys would look her way
Often times I wonder why the sky is full of stuff
As if each planet's population wasn't quite enough
And I've been told a man is only that and really nothing more
But tell that to a Holy man and you'd make him mighty sore
A Whore.
