Lyrics
What?s my story?
Woke up in the city, it was a cold and loveless day?
Took a look in the mirror and my hair had turned to grey.
My eyes were foggy and distant, my skin no longer young;
I tried in vain to remember, when I became what I?ve become.
I haven?t done any differently than a billion men before?
I?ve seen beauty and friendship, along with hunger, death and war.
I?ve tasted love and rejection, both elation and despair?
Finally figured if god exists he simply doesn?t care.
But I still feel my heart race when rain water runs through the streets;
That thrill when I witness the storm bring the world to its knees?
I think about all the people that I?ve pitied in the past?
For letting life lead them by the nose down an over-traveled path.
I often wonder if they?re content in their false security?
For all of my questions they?ll probably end up happier than me.
We seem to be falling victim to our own swollen excess;
We spend and eat and we have more, but we think, feel and do less.
No one seems to be noticing that things aren?t going well
Everyone watches football, while the country goes to hell.
You ask me what?s my story?
There?s nothing much to tell.
Just like my father did before me ?
I try to do what I do well.
I?m not expecting any mercy, or help from up above;
I?ll overcome that which deters me - with the help of those I love.
