Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song when I heard that my brother was going to jail. He and I grew up with horrible abuse and his life seems to be a by-product of that childhood. I wrote the song thinking about what we shared from that childhood. I wrote about what was true for me. I don?t talk about this really, but what?s true is that I have nightmares. I have haunting fears of losing what?s precious to me and that there was no soft place to fall for me as a child. There was no nurturance.
Song Description
This song is about remembering child abuse. There is no graphic detail in the song, but there is what lingers in memories, ?The anger, the whispers, the secrets.? And there is the life-long impact of the child abuse ? losses which leave no soft place to fall.
The song can be played fast or slow. I recorded it somewhere in-between so the words could be heard

Lyrics
There?s a big blue sky overhead
And somewhere hidden in this world
You cry in your bed
Do you think about being small?
Just taking it all with no soft place to fall
Just taking it all with no soft place to fall
I remember more than I want to
I hear words spoken back then more than I want to
In whispers, In anger, In secret
Just taking it all with no soft place to fall
Just taking it all with no soft place to fall
I don?t hear from you
But I know your nightmares
Like losing a limb, or your words, or your best friend
Like losing your home and starting all over again
And somewhere hidden in this world you cry in your bed
Just taking it all with no soft place to fall
Just taking it all with no soft place to fall
Like losing a limb, or your words or your best friend
Like losing your home and starting all over again.
