Story Behind The Song
I wrote this to a man I loved very much. The lover part of our relationship ended 20 years ago, but much of the love lingers still. It?s a complicated feeling that is a struggle to define. Writing this song helped me explain the relationship.
Song Description
This is about the memory of a love from the past. It?s the lover who became a life long friend, but never again a lover. In the relationship the man is older and wiser and gives advice to the younger woman he used to love. They have both moved on from the relationship in many ways, but in some ways, they haven?t.

Lyrics
I Still Think Of You ? Lyric Sheet
Chorus
I still think of you and dream of California
I still think of you and dream of California
Yeah I moved on and you did too
Stopped thinking I?d come back to you
We made promises we didn?t keep
We made love all night and didn?t sleep
It wasn?t just a fling
No ordinary thing
Some part of me belonged to part of you
A long time ago in California
Some part of me became part of you
A long time ago in California
How it happened I don?t know
How it happened I don?t know
Chorus
And I had the kids you never wanted to
And I left the man you said I needed to
And I remarried when you didn?t expect me to
I loved him better than you thought I would
I loved him better than I thought I could
You took up with a woman who was loyal and true
She gave you all the things that lovers do
She?s the wolf by your side
Steady as the California tide
Chorus
We made promises we didn?t keep
We made love all night and didn?t sleep
It wasn?t just a fling
No ordinary thing
Our was a love that didn?t have a plan
Buried under California sand
A long time ago in California
In the fog of California
