Walkin a Little Straighter

Story Behind The Song

Chuck and Mark went to Nashville to meet with the Christian Country Music Asso. Upon settling in the hotel Chuck says lets write a song togather. Mark says lets add a third writter. Chuck looks at Mark like ...who.. they both kneel to pray....amen. Chuck starts the first verse with the melody. Mark says play it again and adds a line or two. This repeats back and forth till the chorus emerges. They weren't satisfied completely and hunger was setting in. So with song in pocket ,they walk across the parking lot to a mexican resturant . Chuck's into his third hot wing and blowin ...man these things are hot... They lay out the song and rearrange some lines . Back at the hotel , they play it three times into a pocket recorder. Next morning Chuck plays it for Darlene at the Christian Country Music Asso. , she liked it , Chuck records it.....and ...well..hope you enjoy it.

Lyrics

I got a different road
ahead of me
but it wont be as bad as
it use to be
cause Im walkin a little straighter
down a road Ive never been
well its long straight and narrow
aint no room for sin

well the road I use to walk
was from side to side
but I cant half remember
cause my mind was blind
but Im walkin a little straighter
down a road Ive never been
well its long straighter and narrow
aint no roomfor sin

temptations by the dozen
he wont leave me alone
since I started walkin
he been comin on strong
but I meet a new friend
when I turned down this road
he fights the battles for me
all I do is go

cause I met a new friend
when I turned down this road
he fights the battles for me
and all I do is go
now Im walkin a little straighter
down a road Ive never been
well its long straight and narrow
aint no room for sin

cause its long straight and narrow
Jesus is my friend
