Mount Saint Helen's was a Blowin'

Story Behind The Song

In 2004 I was on tour, in the Northwest, with my daughter Jessica who performs with me. We went to see Mount Saint Helens because I had always told her the story of what happened that day in 1980 when Mount Saint Helens erupted. I had started writing a song and decided to finish it when we got home to Colorado. Right after we got home Mount Saint Helens started its activity once again. The 25th anniversary of the irruption was coming up on May 18, 2005 so I hurried up to produce the song and get it on several radio stations in the northwest. The song was on several stations including KQMT 99.5 the Mountain here in Colorado. In 2006 we returned to the mountain with some of my musician friends and cut a music video which is now on Youtube.

Lyrics

"MOUNT ST. HELENS WAS A BLOWIN" by Linda Storey copyright December 2004

There's a restless spirit up in the Northwest, rock-and-roll band's were some of the best.

Played in every town, every bar and every street, Mother Nature couldn't help herself but dance to the beat.

She started to shake she started to rumble a five-point one the mountain started to tumble

shot volcanic ash 80,000 feet high, headed north to Ellensburg, the town that I lie.

CHORUS

She kept on rockin and she kept on rollin, there's something going on in the land up north

Mount St. Helens was a Blowin while we kept on rock-and- rollin

I was sleeping in cause I'd been rockin all-night, when I looked out my window there was quite a sight,

a big black cloud darker than the night, it was touching on the ground blocking out all the light.

I jumped out of bed and I turned on the light, I looked outside it was ash all right

turned on my TV to see what they'd say, "Mount St. Helens has blown her top today".

CHORUS

Then we had a jumpin gig up on Snoqualmie Pass , the Slide Inn Bar it was quite a gas.

Jumpin on the tables they were shouting for more, could've sworn the whole place was going to fall through the floor

A cop came in and said, "Stay where you are, there's been an avalanche outside the Slide Inn Bar".

They partied all-night until the dawn had broken, it's wild out here where Mother Nature has spoken!

CHORUS
now I said to myself "this is cooler then shit

Now it's 2004 and Mount St. Helen's got more, she's pushing up the lava building up the crater floor.

Evryone around is tense as the mountain spews and vents. Is she going to blow again? it's hard to take the suspense

CHORUS
