And she knocked on my door one night, just to see who I had invited in, and asked to borrow a hair brush. Lame excuse, but charming nevertheless.

This song is about a person who meets a person on an elevator again and again (she's a journalism student in NY) and finally they get together. The usual nervousness ensues and they dance briefly, zanily, and plan a life together. They long to break out of the separation of the apartment but find they can't give up their independence.
