There's Always God To Blame

Story Behind The Song

I came home from work one night and turned on CNN and saw a reporter talking (live) about a family that had been accidentially killed by a rocket. As the reporter was saying that the government was sorry for the tragedy a little girl came home from school and discovered her entire family dead, beside the road. It was heart wrenching.

Song Description

The song points out that in some parts of the world people both sides of the conflict are, killing innocent people in the name of "their" God. The survivors will eventually figure out that both sides are equally responsible for the "collateral damage".

Lyrics

There?s Always God To Blame By Jim Miller copyright 2006

finger picking (spoken)
Got off work tonight went home, turned on the news
Didn?t like what I had to see
They showed a little girl, looking for her folks
When she found them, beside the road they lay

Heard the guy on TV say, they were all killed by mistake
That sure as hell don?t help to make things right
Even though the young girl lives, inside the Gaza Strip
She never thought she?d see her family die

sung
Why can?t they do God?s work more discreet
Than killing entire families on the street
Does it help to ease the conscience by killing in God?s name
If you can?t admit your part in it, there?s al-ways, God to blame

begin strum
I don?t know why they call, that place the holy land
There?s nothing holy about the way they kill
The reason that they fight, is to prove whose God is right
Like God would want to be king of their hill

For a girl of only ten, nobody?s going to win
They?ve taken every thing she ever had
Now she?ll learn to hate both sides of the debate
Because that?s who really killed her mom and dad

Why can?t they do God?s work more discreet
Than killing entire families on the street
Does it help to ease the conscience by killing in God?s name
If you can?t admit your part in it, there?s al-ways, God to blame

I wish there was a way, that I could change those things
So people wouldn?t want to kill anymore
**But I?m only a man, I can not change their plans
But I know how we can put an end to war

Take all the angry people to an island far away
Seems the only thing to do that?s right
There they all can stay and enjoy their bloody fray
And the children won?t have to watch them fight

Why can?t they do God?s work more discreet
Than killing entire families on the street
They?ve got him working overtime, just checking people in
This wasting of humanity, when will It every end

** for female singer this can be changed to:
"I do not understand how I could change their plans"
