The Man Of Steel

Story Behind The Song

It just came to me. I wrote it in 2 hours. Reminds me of my drinking days. There use to be one in every bar.

Song Description

Song about a little guy that is a reporter for the "Agricultural News". Spends his days writing about farm crime and at night he hangs out in a bar talking loudly, butting into everyone's conversations and business and getting up in the other customer's faces. He gets beat up pretty regular and toward the end sort of admits that maybe he acts on what he "thought he hard or saw" rather than on the facts.

Song Length 4:32 Genre Country - General, Country - Traditional
Lead Vocal Male Vocal Mood Composed
Subject Alchohol, Beer, Wine Language English

Lyrics

The Man Of Steel .... By Jim Miller copyright 2005

You probably heard about me, and the job I have to do
I am the star reporter, for ? The Agricultural News?
I try to tell the farmers, how to look and how to feel
But at night when I?m a drinking, I be-come....... the Man of Steel

I go around the county, writing stories of farming woes
But at the first sign of trouble, I?m stripping off my clothes
Underneath my reporters garments, I?m wearing clothes of blue
A cape with a red ?S?on it, and them, tight fitten britches too

When I?ve get to drinking, I be-come the man of steel
Dancing with married women, and telling them how I feel
Got my nose in everyone?s business, yes I?m a super guy
I wake up in the morning, with a red ?S?........... and a black eye

I blend in with the scenery, I?m only five foot five
I write all of the stories, about agriculture crime
I have super-human hearing, and super-human sight
And a mouth that?s super-human, when I?m drinking Friday nights

Some pool players were talking loud and getting in my way
I always make sure everyone in the bar, hears everything I say
They wouldn?t shut up when I told them to, so I knew what I had to do
I told the biggest one of them, where I was gonna stick his cue

When I?ve get to drinking, I be-come the man of steel
Dancing with married women, and telling them how I feel
Got my nose in everyone?s business, yes I?m a super guy
I wake up in the morning, with a red ?S?........... and a black eye

I was pretty well outnumbered, but I had to take a stand
There was only three or four of them, and I?m the Super Man
With my Super Mouth a running, I waded in to the fight
But one of those dirty booger?s , had a cue of Krypton-ite

The next day my reporting, was mostly made up lies
Didn?t feel much like going out, with my badly mangled eyes
That Krypronite the night before had really whipped my butt
And X-ray vision don?t work that good, when you eyes are swollen
shut

When I?ve get to drinking, I be-come the man of steel
Dancing with married women, and telling them how I feel
Stick my nose in everyone?s business, yes I?m a super guy
This time I?d had my ?S? kicked and was sportin?..... a pair of black
eyes

I try to hide my identity, and keep it quiet who I am
A mild mannered reporter, that be-comes a Super man
And it only takes some whiskey and a half a case of beer
To make me Super- see, and talk, and to help me Super- hear.

Some times I super see things, that aren?t exactly as they appear
And once in a while I get mixed up, on things I super hear
Wish folks wouldn?t get so angry, over mistakes that I have made
I?m tired of getting my red ?S? kicked, up between my shoulder
blades.

When I?ve get to drinking, I be-come the man of steel
Can?t seem to keep my mouth shut, gotta tell them how I feel
I?ve got to weigh in on your business, yes I?m a super guy
And I wake up Saturday mornings, with a red ?S? ..........and a black
eye.
