Smoke and Mirrors

Story Behind The Song

This was a "Title Down" song. I just thought of the phrase "smoke and mirrors" and how to use this magician metaphor in a lover's breakup. The story of the broken man just fell into place.

Song Description

This pop rock tune with a magician metaphor highlights the anger of a man after a breakup. He realizes his relationship became a sham. Now, he's doing a good job of hiding his true feelings, because all of his friends think he's doing well. In the bridge, he imagines her doing the same thing to a new, poor fool.

Lyrics

SMOKE AND MIRRORS

I never had a clue
You could be so cruel
You wrapped me up in a smile, girl
Played me for the fool
Each kiss grew a little colder
Flames began to smolder
Till it was all

Smoke and mirrors
Smoke and mirrors
You spun me ?round and disappeared

?You?ve come a long way?
I hear people say
I made it look like a steady landing anyway
But each step sinks a little lower
Each breath draws a little slower
Cause it?s all

Smoke and mirrors
Smoke and mirrors
You spun me ?round and disappeared

I see you laughing now
Waving your wand around
Wonder who?s under your spell
Cause it?s all

Smoke and mirrors
Smoke and mirrors
You spun me ?round
Smoke and mirrors
Smoke and mirrors
You spun me ?round and disappeared
