The Sun

Story Behind The Song

In 2010 my 18 month old son died very suddenly and unexpectedly. It was a tragic event that completely turned my world upside down and changed the way I view life. I came to realise that we as human beings have gotten so caught up in this physical reality that we can see, smell, taste and touch but that we have lost sight of the essence in us that lies deeper than that. When someone close to us dies, it's a good opportunity to ask those deeper questions like "Where have they gone?" "Does any part of them still exist?" I have spent thousands upon thousands of hours delving into spiritual literature, watching videos and listening to podcasts by the likes of Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, Brian Weiss, Michael Newton, Dr Joe Dispenza & Bruce Lipton to name just a few. I have also been doing a daily meditation practice for over a year. I have come to my own knowing that the part of us that lies dormant in the background, yet is the awareness with which we can even form an identity and have opinions etc, is our true self. Whether you want to call it one's soul, or the Universal force or consciousness- it all points to the same thing. This part of us, in my understanding, is eternal and it is this part of us that this song points to.

Song Description

This track was inspired by my meditation practice. Upon regular meditation, I have become aware of the "self" (or 'Witness'- as Eckhart Tolle likes to put it). It's the 'silent self' that sits in the background our entire life, usually going unnoticed until we stop our busy mind activity. As I watched the sun set one evening, I realised it was a good representation of this. Here on the planet, we witness the sun disappearing every day and we are thrown into darkness. However if you were to go outside of Earth's atmosphere, you would discover the absolute truth... that the sun is still there (it's just facing the other side of the planet)!!! Much like us- when we remove thought/ego and even the body, when we die- the absolute truth is- We are still there too!!!

Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh

You're still there, you're still there

Even as the sun goes down,
and the silence sweeps the air.
Don't be blinded by the dark,
'Cause the Sun's still there.

Chorus:

And even as our Sun dies,
and nothingness fills the atmosphere.
Don't be blinded by the dark,
'Cause you're still there.

Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhh

Ambient electronica definitely shines as one of your things! It's a soothing piece with the right touch of percussion, droning keyboards, and tapping notes. Very good melody and soft, soothing but not too soft vocals work beautifully. Lyrically different enough to make it more interesting and ambient than New Age. The combination makes for a good meditative piece yet keeping its pop sensibility, so that it doesn't drift into a drowsy state. This would be a great closing piece for an album.

feels good different sound than I'm used to but I like it
beats sounds really good as well i like how the drums feel gushy lol

This really reminded me of a group back in the day that had a song titled "You're Not Alone".It was one of my favorite songs of that time because of it's originality. You captured that feeling for me once again with this song. The movement in the composition is beautiful. The vocals are fantastic, and really convey the mood as well as the message. The arrangement was fluid and felt a very natural progression. The mix was well balanced and dynamics were well used throughout. Memorable hook, and effective.
