Story Behind The Song
I hope in the last verse, where the tense turns from past to present, as the singer sees with eyes closed, that the listener may picture people and beaches around the world.
Song Description
I knew when I was writing the song I was going for the description above. But months after I recorded it, I started also remembering holding my father's hand on beaches, and much later in my life passing on our love of beaches to another generation.

Lyrics
ON BEACHES
We walked the sand, hand in hand, on beaches
We watched the seas wash endlessly, on beaches
Round the world, we took our pleasure
Round the world, our life of leisure
Round the world, wherever seas meet sand
On beaches
We slept among dancing dunes, on beaches
We ate the sun and drank the moon, on beaches
Round the world, we took our pleasure
Round the world, our life of leisure
Round the world, wherever seas meet sand
On beaches
Am I dreaming the seagulls in flight?
Dreaming, asleep in the night?
Dreaming, the sound and the light,
Or is it dreaming me?
Eyes closed, I see
We walk the sand, hand in hand, on beaches
We watch the seas wash endlessly, on beaches
Round the world, we take our pleasure
Round the world, our life of leisure
Round the world, wherever seas meet sand
On beaches
