Our society tends to try to fix an additive person's personality by saying, "Stop being addictive". This is obviously horrible advice. An addictive person can no longer stop being addictive than they can stop wanting air. A better solution for the addictive person is for them to find something positive to be addicted to as opposed to something negative. This song is about finding that positive thing.
