Song Description

An outlaw falls in love with a young lady. He decides to live a more honorable life with her, but someone from his past shows up. The young lady sacrifices herself to save the outlaw and now he is forced to make a decision: go back to being an outlaw or wait on her to serve her sentence.

Lyrics

I SEE HER EVERY SINGLE MORNING DRAWING WATER INTO HER PAIL
SHE'S ALWAYS TENDING TO HER ROSES. SO SOFT TENDER AND FRAIL
ROSES RED LIKE THE BLOOD I'VE SPILLED
DAMN MY EVIL WAYS
IT'S TIME FOR ME TO SKIP TOWN AGAIN BUT SHE MAKES ME WANNA STAY

GARDEN OR GUN ............................GARDEN OR GUN
MY CHOICE IS BUT ONE.................GARDEN OR GUN

I WENT DOWN TO THE WATERING HOLE HAD TO SETTLE UP ALL THAT I OWE
THEN I'LL HURRY OFF TO MEET HER. SHE'LL BE OUT WHERE HER FLOWERS GROW
BUT SOME FELLOW BACK FROM LONG AGO WANTS TO CALL ME INTO THE STREET
I HATE TO KEEP HER WAITING BUT A COWARD'S SOMETHING I'LL NEVER BE

GARDEN OR GUN ............................GARDEN OR GUN
MY CHOICE IS BUT ONE.................GARDEN OR GUN

HE NEVER SAW HER COMING, MY SWEET LORRAINE
AND I WAS AS SHOCKED AS HE WAS WHEN WE HEARD THE CRACK
NOW THAT THE DEED WAS DONE IT'S TOO LATE TO EXPLAIN THAT
YOU NEVER SHOOT A MAN IN THE BACK

THE JUDGE LET HER OFF EASY ONLY GAVE HER FIVE TO SERVE
A MINUTE LATER I WAS UP IN THE SADDLE BUT BEFORE I COULD DIG IN THE SPURS
I THOUGHT ABOUT THE ROSES OF MY SWEET LORRAINE. THEY'D BE DEAD IN FIVE YEARS TIME
AND I WOULD KILL THE ONE WHO KILLED FOR ME IF I TURN NOW AND RIDE

GARDEN OR GUN ............................GARDEN OR GUN
MY CHOICE IS BUT ONE.................GARDEN OR GUN
