Song DescriptionStory of the folks that walked the toe path of the Erie canal
Story Behind the SongI grew up near the canal so it became a part of my history. Syracuse was my home and the canal went through the city. I also lived in Palmyra N Y that the canal also went through so my kids could and did walk the tow path.

The lyrics are very fitting to the sound. This song has a very traditional folk feel as though from the 1800's. This would be a fantastic song for a period movie.

This is a throwback to the folk era of the sixties. Pretty cool retro vibe in every way. Uncle Pete would be pleased!

Lyrics
Erie Canal
I've got a mule and her name is Sal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
She's a good ol' worker and a good ol' pal,,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
We've hauled some barges in our day,
filled with lumber, coal, and hay
and we know every inch of the way,
from Albany to Buffalo
Chorus:
Low bridge, everybody down
Low bridge, for we're go'n to a town
and you'll always know neighbor
You'll always know your pal,
if you've ever navigate on the Erie Canal
We'd better get along on our way, old gal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
'cause you bet your life I'd never part with Sal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
Git up there mule, here comes a lock
we'll make Rome 'bout six o'clock
One more trip and back we'll go
right back home to Buffalo
Chorus:
Low bridge, everybody down!
Low bridge for we're go'n to a town
and you'll always know neighbor
You'll always know your pal
if you've ever navigate on the Erie Canal
Oh, where would I be if I lost my pal?
15 miles on the Erie Canal
Oh, I'd like to see a mule as good as Sal
15 miles on the Erie Canal
A friend of mine once got her sore,
now he's got a broken jaw
Cause she let fly with an iron toe,
and kicked him back to Buffalo
Chorus:
Low bridge, everybody down!
Low bridge, for we're go'n to a town
and you'll always know neighbor,
You'll always know your pal,
if you've ever navigate on the Erie Canal
I've got a mule and her name is Sal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
She's a good ol' worker an' a good ol' pal,
15 miles on the Erie Canal
Git up there mule here comes a lock,
we'll make Rome 'bout 6 o'clock
One more trip and back we'll go,
right back home to Buffalo
Chorus:
Low bridge, everybody down!
Low bridge, for we're go'n to a town
and you'll always know neighbor,
You'll always know your pal,
if you've ever navigate on the Erie Canal
Sing, along the way for we are going
through a town, a way along the,
Erie Canal
