Story Behind The Song
As my name is really Delta I figured I had to give this song a go.... I have 3 daughters and a husband that wanted to name one of them Delta Dawn.....my answerto that was an emphatic NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!. Such a sad song but I did it....
She was left behind when promises to her went unfulfilled

Delta Dawn what's that flower you on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
And did I hear you say
he was a-meeting you hear today
to take you to his mansion in the sky
She's forty-one and her daddy still calls her baby
All the folks round Brownsville say she's crazy
'cause she walks downtown with a suit case in her hand
Looking for a mysterious dark-haired man
In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn
prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on
than a man of low degree stood by her side
And promised her he'd take her for his bride.
