Story Behind The Song
Song was inspired by a situation where someone was married and in love with a former boyfriend who was also married and in love with her. Every day both of them were going through the motions with their respective spouses, but crying inside because they could not be together. They had dated over 20 years previously and were very much in love, but they were both recording artists on major labels and touring all over the world all of the time. The distance finally came between them. He married someone else and she went on with her life (because he did) but she never stopped loving him. They reconnected and she realized he'd never stopped loving her either, but they are now both committed to other people, thus Tears Underwater.
Song Description
Song is about being heartbroken but hiding it and acting like you are fine to those around you but you are crying inside. Like crying underwater, "nobody sees" your tears.
