You Just Need One

Story Behind The Song

I heard the sentiment 'People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime' and thought it had the makings of a song. I wrote the lyrics one afternoon in Nashville, and Terri came over and listened to me speak them and immediately had a melody for them. It all seemed to fall into place so easily that it just felt like this song, together with it message, was 'meant to be'...

Lyrics

You Just Need One

Some people come into your life for just one reason,
A ray of hope when you need it most;
But they won't be in your life any longer
Than it takes to leave their gift, and then they'll go.

Some people come into your life for just a season,
Bringing love and laughter with them for a time;
But like leaves must fall from trees in the autumn,
When the day comes you'll have to say goodbye.

Winter to spring, summer to fall,
There's a season for us all;
Life goes so fast; some friends don't last,
But those that matter stay;
Listen to me, lord knows I've seen
Many people pass on through;
When all's said and done, you just need one.

That special one could be there for your whole life's journey
If you're lucky they'll be faithful through the years,
They'll bring love into your life, and when you're hurting
A shoulder's there for you to cry your tears.

I tell you this because of what I've been through
And the people who have joined me on my way;
Out of all of them it's been you
Who I've hoped and prayed would be the one to stay.

Winter to spring, summer to fall,
There's a season for us all,
Life goes so fast, some friends don't last,
But those that matter stay;
Listen to me, lord knows I've seen
Many people pass on through;
When all's said and done:

Winter to spring, summer to fall,
There's a season for us all,
Life goes so fast, some friends don't last,
But those that matter stay;
Listen to me, lord knows I've seen
Many people pass on through;
When all's said and done, when all's said and done,
When all's said and done you are the one.
