I'm stuck in a job I hate, putting up with my obnoxious roommate.
People ask, and I say, "life's going great," but really life is going to shit.
And every once in a pale, blue moon, I will write a song, I will sing a tune.
I will write something that expresses my true outlook on life, but no one gets it.

Maybe it's not as bad as I think to be misunderstood, to be the missing link.
To be the odd man out, to be marching to the beat of a different drum.
And maybe if my head weren't so high up in the clouds, it'd be up my ass, and I'd fit in with the crowds
Of people staring blankly at their thumb.
"Should I suck it?" they say. It doesn't sound so pleasant when I say it that way.

I've been very inspired lately, this song is the product thereof.
Please don't hate me if the words I sing sound unintelligible and petty.
And right before I wrote this song I was speaking with my roommate, and she said something wrong,
And I looked her square in the eyes, and said, "I'm bigger than you, and I'm stronger than you, and God Damn it, people like me."

Who am I?

I wrote a song about first impressions and recently realized that I've been going in the wrong direction and giving off the impression that I have no substance.
But I do have a soul, God damn it! I have a soul.
It's big and bright and tattered with a hole in the center, it's see-through.
Take a glance.

And maybe the words I sing have no direction, and maybe that's the definition of imperfection.
And if so, I don't want to be perfect.
Because, it's much more polite to be indirect.
