Story Behind The Song

I read an interview with Leonard Cohen where he stated that he fell in love at least 100 times a day and wanted to cure himself of this. He went to therapy and also joined a Buddhist retreat in the California mountains to change himself through meditation and through following their spiritual precepts. This was the inspiration for this song - although this is probably a universal "problem" that most of us face throughout our lives and have to learn to deal with. I think most people will identify with this and find it humorous at least.

How sexual attraction can distract us and sometimes rule our lives. We humans being only human battle with this throughout our lives. It can be a constant inner dialogue that doesn't want to go away - as in the case of Leonard Cohen.
