Story Behind The Song
These songs have been successfully tested in a learning environment with pre-K children. And although they have not been tested on adults, it is my belief that the songs can be helpful for anyone becoming acquainted with English or with reading.
Song Description
During a time I was volunteering at the Dallas Bethlehem Center, it occurred to me that children could advance faster in learning to read. Many of them were acquainted with the "ABC" song but not with how letters are associated with sounds. So I started writing these little songs and bringing them in. The reception was very good. I did not stay at that volunteer site beyond that one year, so I cannot testify on whether these particular kids were better prepared for school after exposure to phonics, but I believe they were.

V
VALERIE plays VIOLIN on Saint VALENTINE'S day.
VICTOR serves VOLLEY balls, and scores on the play.
VIRGINIA stays up nights looking for that sleigh.
VENUS hits a tennis ball. The crowd shouts hooray!
VICKY VISITS everyone while the cat's away.
VELVET VIEWS tomorrow as just another day.
V for VELVET !

On a MONDAY MORNING, I MET MARVIN the MONKEY.
MARCHING to school to teach a MONKEY-SHINE class.
It's easy to be MERRY as a MERRY-GO-ROUND,
When you're MARCHING to MOUNTAIN MUSIC.
On MONDAY MORNING when professor MARVIN the MONKEY,
Taught his MONKEY-SHINES to MY 9:00 O'clock class,
In less than half a MOMENT he had everyone dancing,
And MARCHING to MOUNTAIN MUSIC.
M for MONKEY !

LADY LEAP frog hopped high on a LILLY pad,
LOOKING down at the LAKE.
LOOK out for the alligator, cried LUCY LOBSTER.
LOOK LEFT and right and all around before you LEAP.
LITTLE LADY LEAP frog LANDED on the LILLY pad.
Gator LOVED a LUNCH of frogs on his plate.
LOOK out for the gator hiding LOW in the water.
At LAST she LEARNED her LESSON and it's not too LATE.
L for LEAP!
Q
QUEEN bee buzzing QUESTIONS.
Have you any honey today?
QUIN QUAIL whispers answers.
I'm hunting QUARRY if I may.
QUEEN bee buzzing QUESTIONS.
How many QUARTS did you bring my way?
QUIN QUAIL whispers answers.
In my QUIVER, only arrows stay.
QUEEN bee buzzing QUESTIONS.
Be QUICK! What did you bring to me?
QUIN QUAIL whispers answers.
Be QUIET! I'm a QUAIL. I'm not a bee.
Q for QUEEN !
T
THIS is THE TALE of THE famous race,
Between Mr. TERRAPIN and Mr. Hare.
The rabbit TURNED circles in a merry chase,
Faster THAN a TIGER, much faster THAN a pair
Of TWO TINY TADPOLES TROTTING on THE TRACK,
TRYING every TRICK TO stay ahead of Jack.
THE TORTOISE TRAILED off at a snail's pace.
He said he'd wipe THAT grin right off THE rabbit's face.
THE rabbit neared the finish line with no one in sight.
TWENTY TOADS were cheering with all THEIR might.
THEN he laid down TO wait without a care.
When he fell asleep, THE TURTLE passed him unaware.
THE rabbit never doubted his right TO TAKE THE prize.
He THOUGHT he'd beat the TURTLE, so he shut his eyes.
TILL a TWENTY TRUMPET blast started TOOTING in his face.
THE TORTOISE TOOK THE TROPHY. He had won THE race!
T for TURTLE!
