Story Behind The Song
In 1999 or 2000 I went to San Francisco on business and went to a bar on Fisherman's Wharf to see the brilliant acoustic guitarist Chris Clouse. While I was waiting for him to start I started scribblling lyrics in my notebook. One of the lines I wrote was "I will only disappoint you". The rest of the song is just me beating myself up for my bad qualities. I feel much better now, thanks.

Lyrics
Disappoint You - C. Thomas
Whispering warm, blowing kisses
The naked flame beckons you in
Dancing just for you in all its colors
Closer to burning your skin
How does the fantasy match up with your reality?
Not sure I could ever be as much as you expect from me
(Erratic, neurotic, dismissive, excessive)
I will only disappoint you
(Damaged, defensive, and manic-depressive)
I will only disappoint you
You peel back each layer and you're hoping
That something pure and golden waits inside
But as you get in deeper you discover
A rotten core is all that you may find
Unforgiving, unrelenting, unavailable, unsure
Insecure, insensitive - this isn't what you bargained for
CHORUS
How does the fantasy match up with your reality?
Not sure I could ever be as much as you expect from me
