Song Description

I wrote this song to bring about awareness to parents and teens, and to remind them that their lives are worth living.

Story Behind the Song

To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) is a resource to educate and assist people (especially teens) struggling with depression, self-injury and suicide.

Lyrics

Don't Say Goodnight (TWLOHA)
Music & Lyrics by Carolyn J. Messina © 2009

There's a dark place that I go, and it scares me.
I just can't climb out on my own.
And the sadness builds inside me.
Makes me feel like I'm alone.

Who's been whispering in my ear when I'm crying?
Saying I'd be better gone...
It seems the battle that I'm fighting...
Is a war that can't be won.

It'd be so easy to give up. It'd be so simple not to try.
There's just no reason left to stay. And no one's answering my cry.
So now I'm standing on the edge...One step from taking the leap.
And when it's over... It'd be like falling asleep. Falling asleep

I know my family loves me.
Even when we're in a fight.
But sometimes sorry's just not good enough.
When painful words cut like a knife.

And when angry words go flying like a bullet.
It's something you cannot take back.
And the guilt is overwhelming.
You wish the world would fade to black.

It'd be so easy to give up. It'd be so simple not to try.
There's just no reason left to stay. And no one's answering my cry.
So now I'm standing on the edge.. One step from taking the leap.
And when it's over... It'd be like falling asleep. Falling asleep.

And when these thoughts overcome my mind. I want to crush them, and I try.
But then the voices get way too loud.....It's too loud......It's too loud......It's too loud....

I know there's more like me out there.
They show the signs that no one sees.
The teens they cover up the cutting...
With bangle bracelets and long sleeves.

So numb from life and its pressure.
They bleed so they can feel alive.
They hide behind a fake smile.
It's a struggle to survive.

It'd be so easy to give up. It'd be so simple not to try.
When you write love on your arms. Will anybody hear your cry?
And when you're standing on the edge, remember you are worth the fight.
Don't say it's over... Don't say goodnight. Don't say goodnight. Don't say goodnight
