Compared by listeners to artists such as Peter Gabriel, Harry Nilsson, Beck, David Bowie, Ween, Pink Floyd, Lovin Spoonful, The Pixies, and The Monkees, it just depends which song is playing. Flipping The Pig (i.e. singer/songwriter Jeff Mansk) is not the easiest band to pigeonhole.

There are elements of classic pop and rock, tinges of goth, country, power pop, folk, new wave, standards, and general weirdness. Sometimes fully orchestrated, sometimes nothing more than a guitar and a voice...whatever the song calls for.

At the core, it's about the songs themselves; the kind that stick in your head for a while. Regardless of which mood prevails in the moment--humor, sadness, joy, hope, paranoia, general awkwardness--there's always something else waiting around the corner.

Sit back, enjoy, and see if there's anything on the menu that piques your interest.

The album, Just This Shy of Happy, was released in April 2012. Not your standard singer/songwriter fare. 15 oddly cohesive tunes, ranging from melancholy to paranoid to humorous, from rock to acoustic pop to downbeat electronic to sparse piano. At times, you'll swear there's more than one person behind it all.

General Bio

An overgrown child raised on a disturbingly wide variety of music, Flipping the Pig (i.e. singer/songwriter Jeff Mansk) turns away no influence. Flipping the Pig is not the easiest band to pigeonhole.

There's a sense of joy to the music. From its darkest and most melancholy moments (and there are plenty) on through the manic, elated, and ridiculous, it's all part of the same big picture and the same life.

Could things be more "organized"? Sure, if organization meant sticking with one sound. That's not what Flipping the Pig is meant to be. There's a sense of adventure and experimentation. A sense of always wondering, "What if I did this instead?"

And there's the fact that, like many, his moods vary.

At the core, it's about the songs themselves; the kind that stick in your head for a while. Regardless of which mood prevails in the moment--darkness, humor, sadness, joy, hope, horniness, paranoia, general awkwardness--there's always something else waiting around the corner.

Sit back, enjoy, and see if there's anything on the menu that piques your interest.

Just added the song "Brighter" on here. Mostly instrumental, two lines of lyrics are all it needed. Dreamlike, pastoral, choral, and acoustic.
